BALLER MOVE: Target Around ~135 Overall / Waiver Wire
CURRENT ADP: ~180
ANALYSIS: Although Newton's ADP has been on a steady rise since signing with the Patriots, it surprises me that it is not getting even a larger boost up, having him currently as the QB24 off the board. I don't believe one bit of the talk regarding a potential battle between Newton and Jarrett Stidham for the starting position. No matter how bad Newton looks this summer in training camps he'll be there on the field when the ball is snapped for the first time in the 2020 season. And if that is not the case, it won't take more than a drive for him to overcome Stidham and make it to the field. Let's be honest here.
Even with all of the injury concerns he carries with him, Newton is projected to only 241 PPR points next season by PFF. That would see him finish the year as the QB23 on par with Philip Rivers and Gardner Minshew. But you are not convincing me of Newton not having some pretty massive upside. He can pass, he can run, he could even receive passes himself if he wanted. Come on. Just look at Newton's last "full" season in 2018: 3,300+ passing yards, 24 TDs to 13 INTs, almost 500 yards rushing, and 4 scores on the ground. Those were mental numbers and if he can stay on the field... one can just dream.
Oh, and all of that at a nice ADP of "just" around 180 overall, which means Newton is almost going undrafted (!!!) while being a great late-round quarterback target. Even if his ADP keeps rising and he enters the 10th-to-15th round realm, I'd still bet on Newton having a great season in his comeback year. Definitely go for Cam, as he's flying too much under the radar.
