ANALYSIS: You would have been forgiven if you'd dropped Cameron Brate after he went four weeks without recording more than one catch in a game. Brate got off to a hot start in 2017, finding the end zone every week between Week 3 and Week 6, but he was held scoreless since then. Then Sunday happened, when Brate brought both of his receptions in for touchdowns.
Quarterback Jameis Winston's return played a role in that, as Brate has performed much better with Winston under center than with Ryan Fitzpatrick. With Winston healthy and due to start again this week, Brate could be in line to have another strong game. You might be wondering, though, about Brate's volume. Two touchdowns is great, but it came on just two receptions. Are there other signs that he might be back to being a consistent play?
His six targets represented his highest total since Week 7, and he also did this against a Packers defense that has held opposing tight ends in check all season. Brate gets the Lions this week, a team allowing the seventh-most points to tight ends. Add to that the fact that rookie O.J. Howard saw his statistics drop with Winston back and you end up with a player worthy of being rostered in most leagues and started in deeper ones.
