Analysis: Cameron Maybin can run fast, and make contact with the ball. That has given him plenty of value manning the outfield for the Tigers this season. First off, Maybin is weirdly good when playing at home. In 124 away AB this season he has a slash line of just .242/.312/.290, but when playing at home he is slashing .370/.436/.481. Maybin's season started off well; in the 255 AB he had from May through August, he had a .329 BA, .408 OBP, 10% walk rate, and 14 steals out of 19 attempts for a 73.7% success rate. In 31 September AB, he has run into some trouble. He has a slash line of just .194/.219/.258, has just one steal in two tries, and is striking out 31.3% of his PA. The good news is, some of his offensive woes look like some bad luck. Maybin should start to strikeout less. For the season he ranged from 10.9% to 21.6% and averaged 17.9%, so his current rate of 31.3% is way out of the norm. Also, Maybin doesn't usually hit for power, he makes contact and is fast enough to make it to first base. For each month, Maybin's BABIP figures were .476, .378, .339, and .429, while this month his BABIP is .286. That should trend up, even with 14 days already down in the month.
