Marco Estrada is another Blue Jay who found success during his first season playing for Toronto. In 28 starts, Estrada went 13-8, putting together an impressive 3.18 ERA and 1.01 WHIP. He struck out 131 batters while only relinquishing 134 hits in 181.0 innings pitched. There is, however, unfortunately much to nitpick about Estrada’s career moving forward, predicting a slight regression in his 2016 performance.
Estrada's .218 BABIP is a clear sign of heavy defensive support considering his career opponent batting average is .262; easy to now question if the likes of Troy Tulowitzki and Josh Donaldson will play nearly perfect again during his starts. The Jays also let go of Dioner Navarro, Estrada’s personal catcher from 2015, with whom he posted a 2.63 ERA. With every day catcher, Russell Martin, behind the plate, Estrada’s ERA jumped to 4.11. Despite his likely slip back to normalcy, Estrada is still one of the few starters the Jays can be comfortable with before the start of spring training. He’s a solid fourth or fifth starter in fantasy lineups that should be targeted in the late rounds of drafts.
