Cano (Sports Hernia) Undergoes Surgery

Seattle Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano underwent surgery on Tuesday to repair a sports hernia.

Cano has been dealing with the injury throughout the second half of the season. The surgery was a success and the six-time All-Star will require six weeks of recovery time. He should be good enough be at Seattle’s Spring Training.

The 32-year-old is still under contract until 2024 at $24 million per season. The Mariners were out of the race for the postseason early in the season, which brings up why the team didn’t shut down its $240-million man before suffering another injury. The Mariners finished 10 games below .500.

In his second season in Seattle, Cano did not produce like he did in 2014. He did raise his BA to .287 with better play down the final stretch. He also had 21 HR and 79 RBI. Cano only missed six games this season. His power numbers increased, which could be a good sign for a healthy Cano in 2016.
