Cardinals Interested In Steve Cishek: Marlins Reliever Possibly Up For Grabs

The St. Louis Cardinals are trying to potentially land Miami Marlins reliever Steve Cishek, according to The Miami Herald.

Cishek, 29 was the closer going into the 2015 season, but lost the job early in the season when he was demoted to the minors. The right-hander has been much better since he was called back up. A.J. Ramos has won the job as the closer but Cishek has been serviceable since his return.

The Cardinals maintain the best record in MLB. They have a 60-34 record with a six-game lead over the Pittsburgh Pirates in the NL Central. Despite all of that, they want to grab another arm down the final stretch of the season.

Cishek owns a 2-6 record with a 4.65 ERA. All six of his seasons have been in Miami, so maybe a new home could do him good. In his four previous seasons, he was one of the top pitchers in the Marlins bullpen. He converted 88 saves over a three-year span.
