The St. Louis Cardinals placed Randal Grichuk on the 15-day DL because of a right elbow strain, according to ESPN.com.
The Cardinals rookie outfielder suffered the injury on Sunday after a 0-for-2 performance. Grichuk might not return until at some point in September. He was diagnosed with a low-grade ligament sprain in the elbow.
Grichuk, 24, has been great while filling in for the injured Matt Holliday. The leftfielder owns a .284 BA and an .894 OPS with 15 HR and 44 RBI in 85 games this season. He played in 47 games last year, which makes him eligible to still possible win the NL Rookie of the Year.
The club recalled Tommy Pham on Monday to take his place on the 25-man roster. Pham has a .170 BA in the majors this season but has been very productive in the minors with a .327 BA this year with 6 HR and 39 RBI in 48 games played.
Jason Heyward is dealing with hamstring tightness that could see him miss some time as well.
