Carlos Beltran will likely head to the DL following a rib cage injury he suffered on Tuesday, according to the New York Post.
The 38-year-old has been dealing with multiple health-issues in 2015. Beltran’s foot, hamstring and now rib cage are among the injuries this season. If he lands on the DL, it will be his second stint this year.
The injury started on Monday. The outfielder decided to play through it, but felt pain after he fouled off a pitch on Tuesday.
“Honestly, I have to wait until [Wednesday] to see how it feels, Beltran told the Post. “I am not going to assume anything.”
Beltran told manager, Joe Girardi, he could swing from the left side though not from the right side of the plate.
In 66 games, Beltran has a .260 BA with 7 HR and 30 RBI.
Taylor Dugas will be called up from the minors and likely take Beltran’s spot on the roster, according to the N.Y. Post.
New York is 41-37 this season. Despite injuries to star players, it continues to win and stay in the race for the AL East title.
