Carlos Carrasco Justifies Last Spring's Big Extension, Looks to Repeat in 2016

On April 7th of last year, the Cleveland Indians and Carlos Carrasco agreed on a 4-year, $22 million extension. He wasted little time justifying the Indians' faith as he rewarded them, and fantasy owners, with 14 wins and 216 strikeouts.

It was a long time coming for the centerpiece of the 2009 trade that sent Cliff Lee to the Phillies for the Indians to put together a season like this. Relative good health allowed Carrasco to capitalize on his talents, especially as the season wore down. While he only won four games in the second half, he dropped his ERA 108 points from where he left it after the first half, and opponents slashed a measly .181/.243/.298 against him. If he can improve upon his contact rate early in games (he tends to get nastier as the game goes on) he could take the next step forward. Even if not, all signs point to our 18th-ranked starting pitcher being able to replicate his strong 2015.
