The reigning American League Rookie of the Year could very well contend for the American League Most Valuable Player award this season. Although a bold prediction, Carlos Correa turned plenty of heads with his 22 home runs and 68 RBI’s in only 99 games played during his rookie campaign. His average was significantly higher at home, .313, than on the road, .243, but that can be blamed simply on inexperience. Now with a full 2016 season ahead of him, likely to bat third in Houston’s continuously improving and already potent lineup, Correa easily cracks the top ten rankings overall, and has received one’s across the board in RotoBaller’s fantasy shortstop rankings.
There shouldn’t be any worry regarding a sophomore slump for Correa as the 21 year-old will only continue to mature. He has already shown the ability to sprinkle the ball to all fields. Five of his 22 dingers were to right. While powerful, Correa is also quick, stealing 14 bases in 2015. Proven on the big stage as well, hitting two home runs and posting a .292 average in six postseason games, there is no reason to avoid Correa in the first round of any draft.
