Carlos Gomez could potentially require another stint on the DL, according to what Craig Counsell told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
The former All-Star returned to the lineup for the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday as the team’s DH. He went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Gomez has missed five of the last seven games with a hip and groin issue. The injuries flared up again as he missed Thursday’s game.
Manager Craig Counsell told the Milwaukee Street Journal he didn’t like what he saw in Gomez’s mobility.
"I just didn't think he was running that well yesterday during the game and we're not moving forward," Counsell said about Wednesday’s game. "He just feels the same. We've got to get him back to a level where we feel like we're over this. Until he's at that point and he can play at that level, then I think we've got to be cautious."
Counsell did not rule out the possibility of another stint on the DL for the 29-year-old.
"It's in play, yeah, but we're going to give him some time," he said. "It's going to be a day-by-day thing. You'd obviously like to avoid it and like him to make progress and kind of get over the hump with it, but (also sitting him the weekend) is a possibility."
Gomez was previously on the DL earlier in the season. He has played in only 44 games, posting a .275 BA, 5 HR and 24 RBI.
