BALLER MOVE: Add in Deep Leagues
ANALYSIS: I’ll start off by saying Casey McGehee will not be any threat to the front-end Third Basemen, this will just be about his ability to play for your fantasy team as opposed to the average 3B. Let’s call it fantasy WAR. The 31 Year Old McGahee has had a nice start to his 2014, batting .438 with 10 RBI in 5 games. McGahee has at times shown brilliance playing from the hot corner, and actually has decent career numbers: Averaging 18 HR, 85 RBI with a .258 BA and a .733 OPS. This does not include his 2013 campaign he spent in Japan playing for the Rakuten Golden Eagles (Masahiro Tanaka’s old team), where he hit .289 with 29 HR and 90 RBI and won the MVP awart. The point is McGahee is a better player than his Opening Day rank of 1085 (drafted in only 2% of leagues), is a forgotten man in many fantasy circles, and has talent and upside. He has now crawled up to 12%, and that number will only continue to grow from there. If you have a shaky, unproven, or injury prone 3B - or if you have a player you can drop, an injury, or an extra roster spot - McGahee could definitely stop the bleeding at the position and even be a worthy UTIL or Plug-And-Play option throughout the year. If he's still available in your league, strongly consider adding him off the waiver wire now just in case he continues his torrid start to the season.
