Starlin Castro delivered his second walk-off hit for the Chicago Cubs in as many nights on Sunday. This one came in extra innings against the Cincinnati Reds.
This victory for the Cubs (34-27) came in the 11th inning when Castro became the hero yet again and the most hated Cubbie in the eyes of the Reds (28-34). On Saturday, he drove in rookie sensation Kris Bryant with a base knock in the bottom of the ninth for the 4-3 win.
Castro stepped to the plate again in the 11th and this time drove in Chris Coghlan. Castro has become something of a forgotten man in Chicago as an influx of young talent has arrived. The 25-year-old shortstop went 3-for-5 in Sunday’s victory and is starting to swing the bat better this season. He has a .261 BA with 5 HR, 31 RBI, 4 SB and is proving his ability to deliver in the clutch.
The Cubs will be home Monday for the start of a four-game series against the Indians in which the back two games of the series will be played in Cleveland. The Reds will be doing the same with the Tigers, where it will begin in Detroit before ending in Cincy.
