DraftKings MMA, UFC DFS Lineup Picks - Khabib vs. Gaethje (UFC 254)

Well, folks, we did it. The next big-time UFC event is already here. UFC 254, once more held in Abu Dhabi (UAE) this next Saturday will mark the last time we visit Fight Island at least in the short-term future. We'll be back at Las Vegas' UFC APEX center starting Oct. 31 and going all the way to Nov.28 (UFC 255 included), so enjoy the beaches while you still can.

This card can't come more packed. The main event alone is worth the watching price, not going to lie. Khabib faces interim-champ Gathje for the Lightweight championship, and I can't think of many more appealing fights that one putting Nurmagomedov in the center of an Octagon. Seriously. Then I went on to check the rest of the card... and oh, Lordy Lord. We have Robert Whittaker and Jared Cannonier co-leading, and both of them rank in the top-2 of Middleweight contenders, which means belt-holder Israel Adesanya will be watching closer than you and me. And there will also be names those of Volkov, Malkoun, and Cutevala making appearances on Saturday Night. The stuff of the dreams, this one.

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy MMA, UFC lineup picks for DraftKings for UFC 254: Khabib vs. Gaethje on 10/24/20. You can check out our FanDuel MMA DFS picks as well. These DFS lineup picks can vary from higher-priced players and elite options to lower-priced fighters and value picks on DraftKings. Give me a follow on Twitter @chapulana. Good luck!

DraftKings MMA Lightweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Khabib Nurmagomedov, $9200 - vs. Justin Gaethje

It's been more than a year since we last saw Khabib get inside the Octagon. As for Gaethje, the last time he fought he did against Tony Ferguson last May for the interim belt due to Nurmagomedov extended absence. It took Khabib all of nine wins in the UFC to finally got a shot at then-champion Al Iaquinta in 2018 when he grabbed the belt for good and has yet to surrender it (Khabib is a career 28-0 fighter, just in case).

Gaethje can consider himself a champion* (yes, that asterisk must appear there), and he's got a great 22-2 overall record himself having debuted in the UFC with two KO losses but four straight wins in the past two years. All of Gaethje's fights have finished in KO, with three first-round knockouts inside the first round. He has attempted all of one takedown inside the Octagon, back in 2017.

Khabib is the more complete fighter, and perhaps close to the no. 1 P4P these days. He's an absolute machine. Can do it with strikes, excels on the grappling game (he had a record-setting 21-of-27 takedown performance in 2013), and is just plain and simple the clear favorite to get the W here and retain the belt. You'd be paying a ton, sure, but Khabib has scored more than 61 DKFP in his last nine fights.

DraftKings MMA Middleweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Robert Whittaker, $8000 - vs. Jared Cannonier

While both Whittaker and Cannonier are UFC veterans, the former almost double the latter's number of fights under the promotion's banner, 15 to 8 to this day. Whittaker can call himself an (interim) champ, too, getting the belt against Yoel Romero in 2017. When it came to the actual gold, though, Whittaker lasted all of eight minutes and a half against Israel Adesanya, never truly conquering the division.

Cannonier himself has never fought for the title. That should change soon because 1) he's right there in the ranks aiming at reigning king Adesanya and 2) he's won three straight via KO inside the first two rounds at most. While Cannonier had a rough spell of three losses between 2017 and mid-2018, he's 3-0 in the past 24 months.

Whittaker throws more volume of significant strikes while landing virtually the same of them as Cannonier. On top of that, he at least tries his luck with takedowns here and there (he threw 13 toward Darren Till in his last fight, succeeding two times) and is also better at preventing being taken down. This is a super close fight, with Whittaker the slight underdog. I think he'll still get the win here, putting on another strong case to face Adesanya a second time down the road.

DraftKings MMA Heavyweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Alexander Volkov, $8600 - vs. Walt Harris

Neither of Volkov or Harris has ever fought for the heavyweight belt. That's interesting, considering that Volkov had a four-win streak to start his career (he's 2-2 since 2018, though) and that Harris was 3-0-1 in his four fights before dropping his last one to über-veteran Alistair Overeem. The HW division has been dominated by Stipe Miocic lately and he's been feuding with Daniel Cormier, though, so it wasn't going to be easy to find a way there.

Both men enter this fight with losses in their most recent bouts. Harris is a killer, that's it. He has yet to attempt more than 98 SS in a single UFC fight, topping at that mark all the way back in 2016. Don't get it wrong, though: Harris just doesn't need more volume as landing between 4 and 32 SS has allowed him to KO six foes so far in his career. His power is undeniable.

Volkov, on the other hand, throws a lot more SS and lands them at higher rates while carrying some grappling prowess with him too. Harris has a higher ceiling because of his constant KO outcomes, but Volkov is the safer play as he can do it every way and doesn't depend on extra fantasy points coming via early stoppages. Removing those extra DKFP, Volkov is a 51.6 DKFP career fighter compared to Harris' 17.1...

DraftKings MMA Women's Flyweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Lauren Murphy, $8800 - vs. Liliya Shakirova

We got ourselves a debutant! Yay! Liliya Shakirova will make her first appearance under the UFC banner this Saturday facing veteran Lauren Murphy. Murphy debuted back in 2014 and her initial UFC-run wasn't that good with a 1-4 record from that year to 2018. Starting in 2019, though, she has racked up three straight victories in the Octagon.

Shakirova will fight carrying a nice 8-1 career record into this one, and she's also on a three-fight winning streak, all of those Ws coming from Sep. 2018 to this date. She has yet to fight in 2020, with her last bout happening slightly over a year ago.

Murphy is the favorite here, and she's a complete fighter with both striking and grappling prowess. She throws volume and lands one TD every five attempts, not bad all things considered. Shakirova is replacing Cynthia Calvillo (COVID positive), and while Calvillo might have put Murphy in trouble, it is hard to see the debutant doing that.

DraftKings MMA Light Heavyweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Magomed Ankalaev, $8900 - vs. Ion Cutelaba

This fight smells like fireworks. Let me introduce you to Ankalaev first: five fights since 2018, 4-1 record so far, three of four wins via KO, two inside the first round. As for Cutelaba: 2-2 in the same span, all four fights ending early, two KO wins, one KO loss, one submission loss. If this bout doesn't end before the final bell I will stop watching MMA forever.

There are not enough data points to consider the bodies of work of these two and making proper assessments. They just haven't logged the fight time to generate those statistics, so you have to pro-rate all of their numbers to get an idea of what they are. Other than insane, that is.

Both men have very similar DKFP averages if removing their bonus points (via KO or submission). They sit at around 28 DKFP each that way, and both are upside/boom-bust plays. Ankalaev current streak of four wins with two straight KOs in his last two is enough to consider him the favorite, but watch out for Cutelaba: he's finished three opponents with a KO under a minute since 2017.

DraftKings MMA, UFC DFS Lineup Picks - Ortega vs. The Korean Zombie (UFC Fight Night 180)

Second-to-last Fight Island event before we come back to the UFC APEX, and the appetizer for what is coming a week from now when Kahbib faces Gaethje on October 24th. But let's not get ahead of ourselves, please. Keep calm, folks. We won't have any fans in attendance once more (meh) but hey, we gotta keep those safe-distances up and that's what it takes. As was the case last weekend, US-based people won't have a problem as they'll catch the event in prime time, while poor Abu Dhabi locals will need to stay up at 3 am to watch the main card start. Yikes.

Anyways, this one boasts a pretty-heavy headliner: Ortega faces The Korean Zombie in the main event, and both men rank inside the top-4 (no. 2 and no. 4 respectively) of the FW weight class, aiming at current belt-holder Alexander Volkanovski and inching closer to the champ. While Jessica Andrade ranks as the no. 2 Strawweight, she is not in the Flyweight ranks though she will be fighting against no. 1 contender Katlyn Chookagian at the latter's weight class. Uh, oh. Expect some fireworks all around the card, friends.

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy MMA, UFC lineup picks for DraftKings for UFC Fight Night 180: Ortega vs. The Korean Zombie on 10/17/20. You can check out our FanDuel MMA DFS picks as well. These DFS lineup picks can vary from higher-priced players and elite options to lower-priced fighters and value picks on DraftKings. Give me a follow on Twitter @chapulana. Good luck!

DraftKings MMA Featherweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Brian Ortega, $7600- vs. Chang Sung Jung

When it comes to UFC fighting, Ortega's and Korean Zombie's careers can't be closer. Both of them have fought 8 times inside the Octagon, they are 6-1-1 and 6-2 respectively, and both men had a chance at a belt... that both ended dropping via KO against Max Holloway (Ortega) and Jose Aldo (Zombie).

That being said, though, it is Ortega who comes in hot as he lost that title-fight just at the end of 2018 compared to Chang Sung Jung's 2013 chance. It's been seven years since that moment, and although Korean Zombie enters this fight with a two-fight winning streak, it is Ortega who got the last call for the gold.

Ortega has been out since that fight, though, while Korean has fought two times in 2019, both times finishing with a round-one KO. Chang Sung Jung is a master of the knockout, but I'm betting on Ortega getting back to the winning column and relaunching his bid for the FW belt against the Korean Zombie this weekend.

DraftKings MMA Women's Flyweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Jessica Andrade, $8400- vs. Katlyn Chookagian

You must have heard of Andrade by now. Jess is entering the Octagon for the 18th time in his career this weekend, and she's doing after dropping two fights in a row for the first time in her career, which started more than 7 (!) years ago with a loss. Andrade got the Strawweight division belt from Rose Namajunas in May 2019 but lost it to Zhang Weili three months later, and is now trying to build a Flyweight resume.

Katlyn, on the other hand, is a FW vet with 10 fights under her belt but no literal belt to boast about. She had a chance against Valentina Shevchenko earlier this year, but she was KO'd in barely a minute of time. She got to rebound with a win against Antonina Shevchenko in his last outing, though, winning via decision this past month of May.

While Andrade has both grappling and striking abilities, Chookagian is all about them strikes. Andrade got absolutely demolished in her last two fights (2 DKFP against Namajunas in 15 minutes; 2 DKFP against Weili in 0:42 seconds before getting KO'd). That's far from Andrade's best version and ceiling, which I'm betting on here reaching here within a full 15-minute bout with Chookagian. Katlyn will rack up points via volume, but I think Andrade earns a KO victory getting back to his winning ways.

DraftKings MMA Light Heavyweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Jimmy Crute, $9000- vs. Modestas Bukauskas

The first time we saw any of these two inside an Octagon wasn't earlier than 2018 when Crute won his first UFC-fight that December against Paul Craig. Since then, he's fought three more times currently holding a 3-1 record and having won his last bout almost eight months ago.

Bukauskas, on the other hand, debuted last July and things couldn't have gone better for him: five minutes of fighting time, a victory, and a KO to add to his resume. Not bad for a start.

Crute has landed 9 of the 11 takedowns he's attempted in the Octagon, and given his short-lasting fights (three of the four ended before hitting the four-minute mark) it is hard to predict what could happen here. The same goes for Bukauskas, who only has five minutes of fighting time. Given that Crute has finished all of his foes in his three wins via two Subs and one KO, I'm leaning Jimmy here. Bukauskas was a menace though, and there is nothing really indicating that he will drop his second UFC fight. Close call.

DraftKings MMA Featherweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Jonathan Martinez, $8000 - vs. Thomas Almeida

While Thomas Almeida has taken on foes eight times already under the UFC banner starting in 2014, Jonathan Martinez is facing his sixth opponent in Almeida when time comes next Saturday, and all of Martinez's fights have come since October 2018.

Almeida started with a bang, winning four-of-four before posting a 3-1 record starting in 2016 and has not fought since January of 2018, even earlier than Martinez debuted in the UFC... Martinez himself is 3-2 since he got it going, and KO'd his last opponent in just over 10 minutes two months ago.

This is the closest of fights in the main card per Vegas odds, but everything points into Martinez's direction to snatch the win here. He's KO'd his rivals in the last two wins, uses both striking and grappling, and Almeida got KO'd in his last fight two years ago. Side with Jonathan here.

DraftKings MMA, UFC DFS Lineup Picks - Moraes vs. Sandhagen (UFC Fight Night 179)

Shout-out to Abu Dhabi, as they are getting to hold another UFC event amid the ongoing pandemic situation. This weekend's event will start at 4am local time because it will be held behind closed doors, so it's not that anyone will notice and American folks will enjoy the show at a proper, prime time on the east coast. Advantages of Fight Island, I guess.

After a shallow and not-so-fireworky card last weekend, we're back to loaded times this week. Moraes (no. 1) and Sandhagen (no. 4) headline the event and both are close to a shot for Petr Yan's belt, so this one comes with high stakes attached to it. The second-to-last fight will pit Barboza against Stephens, who are not so close to the Featherweight champ in the ranks but still sound good as hell to have a great bout. Four more fights complete the main card, which features six (!) matches this weekend after the four held last Saturday. Yay!

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy MMA, UFC lineup picks for DraftKings for UFC Fight Night 179: Moraes vs. Sandhagen on 10/10/20. You can check out our FanDuel MMA DFS picks as well. These DFS lineup picks can vary from higher-priced players and elite options to lower-priced fighters and value picks on DraftKings. Give me a follow on Twitter @chapulana. Good luck!

DraftKings MMA Bantamweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Cory Sandhagen, $8200- vs. Marlon Moraes

These two are pretty close career-wise. Sandhagen debuted back in January 2018 compared to Moraes' first fight happening in June 2017. That six-month difference only translates to one fight of distance under the UFC banner, although it was enough to help Moraes fight for the belt against Henry Cejudo a little over a year ago... and drop that chance getting KO'd.

Sandhagen is 6-1 in the UFC but lost his last one to rising Aljamain Sterling in just 1:28 minutes of fighting time. Moraes bounced back from his loss to Cejudo by defeating washed-up Jose Aldo last December and is 3-1 since the start of 2018. Both fighters have finishes via KO and submission, but none relies a lot on grappling (Cory has the edge on attempts and landing rates, though).

When it comes to throwing strikes, Sandhagen has thrown more overall but Moraes has shown way more power and finishing prowess. Moraes floor is entirely dependent on an early KO or submission, so in a close fight as this one looks like it's going to be I'd go with Sandhagen to get the W.

DraftKings MMA Featherweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Makwan Amirkhani, $7400- vs. Edson Barboza

Black vs. white. Yin vs. Yang. Barboza is the veteran of veterans of the promotion, more or less. He is entering the Octagon for the 23rd time in his career, and he's pretty much done judging by his current three-loss run going back to the start of 2019. He's 4-1 since 2018.

Amirkhani has fought 8 times in the UFC and is 6-2 with a 3-1 record since the start of 2018, two of those wins coming via submission. That is Amirkhani bread and butter, the grappling and ground game. Just two fights ago (although he lost) he attempted 19 (!) takedowns against Shane Burgos, and he's on a seven-fight streak with at least one TD landing.

Barboza is all about hitting, Amirkhani about manhandling foes on the ground. Barboza has looked terrible as of late and his best days seem to be way over. Amirkhani, although on really low SS volume, is a hit to score fantasy points if only because of his sweet takedown prowess. Go with Amirkhani, Barboza is done for good.

DraftKings MMA Heavyweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Ben Rothwell, $8500- vs. Marcin Tybura

In case you haven't noticed the trend yet, let me make it clear: the UFC has definitely put together a card full of long-time-brawlers, am I right? Rothwell is another fighter with his first fight coming more than 10 years ago, in 2009. He was up and down, then strung four consecutive wins in the mid-10s, dropped three straight, and now is on a two-win streak. All in all, he's 2-2 since the start of 2019.

Tybura is not new to the promotion either, and he also enters this bout with a 2-2 record in the same span and also having won his last couple of fights. While Rothwell only has decision losses in that four-fight span, Tybura was knocked out in his last two losses. On the winning side of things, Rothwell was able to score himself a KO while Tybura only got his Ws via decision.

Heavyweights mean power, and the power here is all in Rothwell's warm body. He's attempted a hell of a lot more strikes, and although Tybura has the edge on the grappling game I'm betting on an early stoppage via KO going Rothwell's way.

DraftKings MMA Middleweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Dricus du Plessis, $8400- vs. Markus Perez

Freshman alert! Dricus du Plessis will make his UFC debut after winning two in a row prior to this weekend's fight. Perez, while not a grizzled veteran (debut in 2017), is 2-3 and has plenty of cage-time in his resume already. It should be mention that Dricus is stepping up for this one on short notice, too.

Perez has not won or lost two in a row ever, alternating Ws and Ls since his first bout. His two wins came via submission, and his three losses via decision. The two submissions came inside the first two rounds and six minutes of fighting time, which speaks high of Perez's prowess to turn any grappling sequence into a potential finish.

Du Plessis is no joke at finishing foes, though. He's won all his 14 bouts to date early, which is insane. It is rare to find a debutant favored by betting lines, but this is one of those times when putting your money on the freshman doesn't look crazy at all. Seeing another decision loss handed to Perez here, which would mark the first time in his career dropping two straight and leaving him in a very critical position in the promotion going forward.

DraftKings MMA Heavyweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Alan Baudot, $6800 - vs. Tom Aspinall

This here is the ultimate no-info fight. Sure, Aspinall already debuted in the UFC last July... and won via KO in just 45 seconds throwing all of 10 SS and landing all 10 of them. That's it, that's all we have from him in the promotion.

Alan Baudot? His name is all we have in his case, as he's making his UFC debut this weekend. Super informative blurb, isn't it!? Well, looking at both fighters' careers, Aspinall is 8-2 while Baudot comes in at 8-1. Aspinall has been handed an 82 percent chance of winning this one over the debutant Baudot (22%).

Both men have finished or been finished by their opponents, which makes no sense but is true. There will be KO here, folks, and given the ultra-cheap tag of Baudot, I gotta go with the freshman and French debutant. Helluva risky play, with no one giving a penny for a Baudot win, but the upside is there and the KO is in sight.

DraftKings MMA Featherweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Youssef Zalal, $8600- vs. Illia Topuria

Six months is all Zalal has needed to build a 3-0 record fighting in the UFC. Three fights, three decisions, and three times his hand has been raised to the sky after sound performances that have been steadily getting better each time he's entered the Octagon.

Topuria, on the other hand, will grace the cage for the first time here. That being said, the prospect is 8-0 in his pro career and looks like a real threat to break Zalal's perfect record so far. Zalal has balanced his striking with some grappling, and he pulled off 3 takedowns on 5 attempts in his last fight while attempting around 100 SS per bout. Topuria is all about grappling, takedowns, and chokes.

The problem Topuria will find with Zalal, though, is that the latter has yet to be submitted as a pro. Zalal has been incredible already and another W here would put him 4-0 in such a short eight-month span. Zalal is nowhere near the top of the division and is still a prospect himself, but if he keeps racking up wins it won't take long to see him breaking into the official top-15.

DraftKings MMA, UFC DFS Lineup Picks - Holm vs. Aldana (UFC on ESPN 16)

Talk about a night for the ages. That of last Saturday, I mean. Adesanya defended his belt against Cocky Costa, Dominick Reyes got rocked by Polish Jan Blachowicz (who lifted the LHW belt), and it all happened in the sandy beaches of Abu Dhabi. Well, more or less. The thing is, we had a fireworks-loaded event a week ago, and this weekend things had to get back to normalcy by regressing a bit in the excitement-index. But fear nothing, folks, because we're back in the United Arab Emirates for another one, and that can only mean good things are about to happen!

This card will be women-heavy, and in fact, the main event will be highlighted by two of the top Women's Bantamweight fighters in Holly Holm and Irene Aldana. Other than that, Julianna Peña and Germaine de Randamie will complete the women's side of the card, which will be paired with fights that will feature the likes of Yorgan the Castro and Dusko Todorovic in a four-fight main card.

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy MMA, UFC lineup picks for DraftKings for UFC on ESPN 16: Holm vs. Aldana on 10/3/20. You can check out our FanDuel MMA DFS picks as well. These DFS lineup picks can vary from higher-priced players and elite options to lower-priced fighters and value picks on DraftKings. Give me a follow on Twitter @chapulana. Good luck!

DraftKings MMA Women's Bantamweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Irene Aldana, $7800- vs. Holly Holm

No introduction needed for Holly. Holm has been a contender forever and ever, and she got the belt no less than from Mighty Ronda Rousey back in 2015. Since then, she's alternated championship fights with non-title bouts and she's currently the no. 2 ranked fighter in the division, with a 3-3 record since 2017. Aldana is 3-1 in 2019 alone and on a clear ascension toward a title fight, currently ranked seventh in the WBW division.

While Holm normally has a strike-laden approach, at least she attempts takedowns here and there if needed. Aldana, on the other hand, is a pure volume striker. She has attempted an average of 213 SS per fight through his career and no fewer than 171 in any longer-than-one-round fight. Holm, on the other hand, attempts way fewer strikes but lands them at a higher rate.

At this point in their respective careers, and given what they have done lately, I'd bet on the underdog Aldana here. She comes with a higher floor and is less dependant on early-stoppage bonus points, and this looks like a full 25-minute bout. High volume, extended fighting time, and five Ws in her last six fights are enough for me.

DraftKings MMA Heavyweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Carlos Felipe, $7300- vs. Yorgan de Castro

Quite interesting to have a couple of almost-newbies at the top of the card. Yorgan has stepped two times inside the Octogan, winning his first a year ago and dropping his last one last May. Carlos has only one fight--and one loss in his UFC career--coming in mid-July.

Both fighters' losses came on 15-minute fights ending in a decision, and de Castro won his lone one via KO against Justin Tafa in a short two minutes. Neither of these two has attempted a single takedown in their three fights combined, let alone landed one. They have no fantasy points from actions on the ground either.

When it comes to striking, Yorgan attempted 69 SS in his last bout landing 35% to Felipe's 121 attempts landing at a 36% clip. This looks close, and it looks bad as hell too if you're looking for big fantasy tallies. I'd go with Felipe upsetting Castro on this one in a dud of a fight overall.

DraftKings MMA Women's Bantamweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Julianna Peña, $7600- vs. Germaine de Randamie

Germaine enters this fight as the second-to-last victim of the unstoppable Amanda Nunes, having dropped that fight back in December of 2019 and not appeared inside an Octagon since. Before that, though, she was on a five-fight winning streak which included defeating Holly Holm for the very belt.

Peña has fought just once since the start of 2017, back in July 2019 when she defeated Nicco Montano in a card that also featured her foe this Saturday. Only thing is, it took Peña 15 minutes to drop Montano while Germaine defeated Aspen Ladd with a 16-second KO.

Neither of these two is a high-volume striker, but de Randemie lands way more attempts than Peña. That being said, though, Peña is the one with the grappling game edge. It is not even an edge, per se, as Germaine straight discard that MMA technique. Pena attempts more than one takedown per round landing half of them (she's done so for all of her career), and although Germaine has looked dominant as hell this will be my third underdog-pick going with Peña for the W and the higher fantasy tally. If she can't prevent de Randemie for knocking her out, he'll get the highest DKFP on the night.

DraftKings MMA Women's Bantamweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Dusko Todorovic, $9100- vs. Dequan Townsend

Freshman fighter! Dusko is making his official UFC debut on Saturday, and so far so good for the Bantam: he's 9-0 as a pro and he can't carry a brighter record through his MMA career to this point. Townsend, a grizzled veteran with a much bulkier 21-11 record, is all of 0-3 in the UFC though. He has yet to score himself a W after dropping two decisions in his last two bouts and getting knocked out in his debut.

See, the most fantasy points Townsend has ever got to inside the Octagon are 14.0 in a 15-minute fight!!! That makes one laugh, for real. And Dusko is a newcomer, sure, but he can't do worse than that, right? If you're picking someone to put in your fantasy lineup, it must be Todorovic, no matter what.

This will probably end being a seemingly unwatchable, low-volume, no-takedown, putrid spectacle all around. It will go the distance, the ref will lift someone's arm after 15 minutes and a decision... and that arm will belong to the Serbian Todorovic.

DraftKings MMA, UFC DFS Lineup Picks - Adesanya vs. Costa (UFC 253)

After a one-week delay, UFC 253 has finally arrived. And we're pumped. Abu Dhabi will get one more even here and quite a neat one with two belts on the line and up for grabs: one if his current owner losses, the other one available "for free" given it's currently vacant. Uh, oh, those high high stakes. The build-up for this one has been long worked dating back to UFC 248, the original Adesanya vs. Costa scheduled date, but Costa missed it, Adesanya defended the belt against Yoel Romero, and here we are.

On the other title-fight of the main card, Dom Reyes and Jan Blachowicz will try their best to claim Jon Jones' vacated title, who he dropped around a month ago citing both salary-negotiation issues and a potential move to the heavyweight division. The rest of the card is not as packed as those two main events, but hey, those couple of matches should give us everything we want from this one. Welcome back to Fight Island, folks, where it is all about the gold in UFC 253!

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy MMA, UFC lineup picks for DraftKings for UFC 253: Adesanya vs. Costa on 9/26/20. You can check out our FanDuel MMA DFS picks as well. These DFS lineup picks can vary from higher-priced players and elite options to lower-priced fighters and value picks on DraftKings. Give me a follow on Twitter @chapulana. Good luck!

DraftKings MMA Middleweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Israel Adesanya, $8500 - vs. Paulo Costa

I don't think any of these two monsters need any sort of introduction, but just in case... Adesanya is your undisputed, reigning MW champ. He's 7-0 and has two successful defenses of the belt already to his name against Whittaker and Romero after getting it from Gastelum back in 2019. Costa, on the other side this weekend, is fighting for the gold for the first time in his 5-0 career having defeated Romero in his latest bout.

You read that right. We're about to watch two men entering the octagon with impeccable records and a combined 12-0 run. Costa brings the super-KO power with his four knockouts in five fights--all before the end of the second round. Adesanya isn't too short of that, with three KOs to his name in his seven fights. No fighter goes for the takedown, but honestly, they have not needed them at all through their careers.

Costa has been targeted quite a lot in his bouts and absorbs 47% of the volume he sees. Adesanya defends 75% of the strikes he faces, getting the edge there. On the other hand, Costa is overwhelming at throwing significant strikes (16.3 per minute) landing 61% of them while Adesanya attempts 8 SS/min landing just 50%.

This is impossible to predict, honestly. I'm saying Israel just because he's the current champ and has already proved himself against much tougher competition. Costa looks as good as possible though, so I wouldn't blame you if your thoughts align with him. Toss up of a fight.

DraftKings MMA Light Heavyweight- UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Jan Blachowicz, $7200 - vs. Dominick Reyes

Did Dom defeat Jones when they faced each other seven months ago? Nope, although you might think he did. Anyways, we may never settle that debate with Jones now moving onto heavier pastures. Other than that blip, Reyes is 6-1 since 2017 and has defeated a bunch of top-tier fighters in that run.

As for Jan Blachowicz, the Polish is 7-1 going back three years and his only loss came more than a year and a half ago when Thiago Santos KO'd him. Currently in a three-win run, Jan can't look more solid having knocked out two of his last three foes before the UFC offered him a chance at the gold.

While Reyes has always been about striking, Jan was active on the ground game trying to land takedowns for most of his career until he stopped needing/using them in his last four fights (one unsuccessful attempt in all combined). So, expect a good deal of strikes going both ways. Reyes was close to making history by defeating Jones but failed. The numbers of these two on the striking game are super close. Give me the upset from the underdog here, even more considering the low price compared to Reyes'.

DraftKings MMA Flyweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Brandon Royval, $7300 - vs. Kai Kara-France

While none of these two is a truly experienced fighter, Kai has been inside an Octagon five times to Brandon's one. That difference is already big, but it is even larger if we go deeper and look at the actual fighting minutes: 8:18 for Royval, and all of 75:00 for Kai. That's crazy, but it is we have on tape for this one.

Kai has proved an overwhelming strike-launcher in his career. He's attempted 168+ SS in all of his bouts, topping at 257 in his last one (a win). Royval, on the other hand, only needed 33 SS attempts before submitting Tim Elliot last May with a perfect 1-of-1 takedown attempt. That is Royval for you, a grappling master that excelss on the ground.

The gameplan here is obvious for both fighters. If this goes the distance then Kai would have the highest odds to score himself a points win if only because of the heavy striking volume unless Royval locks him on the ground and doesn't give him room. But I'm envisioning an early submission going Royval's way here to keep his record intact.

DraftKings MMA Women's Bantamweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Sijara Eubanks, $7400 - vs. Ketlen Vieira

I don't know why Vieira is the favorite here, honestly. Ketlen dropped her last bout getting KO'd by Irene Aldana last December. She had won four prior to that, but it is not that he's been overwhelming with her outcomes. Eubanks, on the other hand, has six fights since 2018 and is 4-2 on those carrying a two-fight winning string these days. But she has actually been overwhelming, not like Ketlen.

This fight is most probably going the distance. If that happens, Sijara has everything to win--both in real-life and fantasy contests. He throws more significant strikes per minute and lands them on higher rates. The same happens when it comes to takedowns, with Eubanks attempting twice as many as Vieira and landing also two-times Ketlen's.

Though this could be close, on a full 15-minute fight I have to go with Sijara given his higher floor and how she could edge Vieira both on the ground and by the way of strikes (remember, Ketlen was KO'd before the end of Rd. 1 in her last fight).

DraftKings MMA Featherweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Hakeem Dawodu, $8200 - vs. Zubaira Tukhugov

It is hard to see Zubaira getting a win here. Zuba logged his first UFC fight all the way back in 2014 but has only fought two times in the past year missing three years prior to that. He won his last bout via KO and ended the one before on a draw. Hakeem, on the other hand, has fought all of his UFC-career inside a three-year span going back to March 2018 and is 4-1 having not lost since he did in his debut.

This is a match of contrasting styles, with Dawodu carrying the striking prowess and Zubaira the grappling game. In his last four fights, Dawodu has thrown at least 139 SS landing 46% of them. Zubaira has not reached even 60 SS attempts in his last two, although he attempted eight takedowns and landed six of them in his draw with Lerone Murphy in 2019.

If only because of the volume, Dawodu should be the favorite here in a fight that should go the distance or end with a knocked-out Tukhugov before the final horn blazes. A reasonable favorite at a not-so-high price, make Dawodu your pick here.

DraftKings MMA, UFC DFS Lineup Picks - Covington vs. Woodley (UFC Vegas 11)

We should have been watching Adesanya facing Costa this weekend, but the UFC decided to flip UFC 253 and UFC Vegas 11, and thus we're getting the latter prior to the former this Saturday. Back in the APEX in Vegas, NV, and a week before flying to Abu Dhabi again, the UFC will pit Woodley against Covington in an event that features six fight in its main card. Now, that's what we like over here. And let me tell you too, that this card actually comes packed as hell.

After last weekend lowly matchups didn't offer a lot of top-tier contestants, this Saturday is poised to bring the fireworks. Just look at the main event, in which no. 2 Colby Covington and no. 5 Tyron Woodley will fight to get a shot at Usman's WW belt sooner rather than later. It doesn't end there, though, with uber-veteran Cowboy Cerrone (no. 14, trying to get back on track after four consecutive Ls) fighting against up-and-downer Niko Price. Sprinkle some phenom-flavors by the way of Khamzat Chimaev, sub-machine Mackenzie Dern, etc. and you'll end with a very delicious card--at least on paper--to brighten your Saturday night plans.

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy MMA, UFC lineup picks for DraftKings for UFC Vegas 11: Covington vs. Woodley on 9/19/20. You can check out our FanDuel MMA DFS picks as well. These DFS lineup picks can vary from higher-priced players and elite options to lower-priced fighters and value picks on DraftKings. Give me a follow on Twitter @chapulana. Good luck!

DraftKings MMA Welterweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Colby Covington, $9300- vs. Tyron Woodley

Both Covington and Woodley enter this fight as sore losers. Nah, that's not entirely true. Both have held the belt for some time before getting stripped of it not long ago, but both also lost their last and last two fights respectively, all of them since the start of 2019. Colby is 4-1 since 2017 to Woodley's 3-2 record, and the two fighters share something in common: they dropped fights again reigning-champ Kamaru Usman in 2019.

The profiles of these two are totally opposite. Covington is a strike-thrower and eater, he's just careless yet ruthless as hell. He just overwhelms his opponents averaging 15+ SS per minute compared to Woodley's barely-5. He also launches takedown attempts in bunches (one each two minutes of fighting time) compared to Woodley's almost non-existent ground game.

If only because of the volume, Covington is the clear favorite. It's been three fights in which Woodley hasn't even reached 80 SS attempted, and four without a successful takedown (he scored himself a submission win in his last victory, though). There is a chance that even losing the fight Covington reaches 50+ fantasy points, with Woodley's chances reduced to a KO/Submission catching Covington at some point.

DraftKings MMA Welterweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Niko Price, $8500 - vs. Donald Cerrone

Much respect to Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone. The 10-year vet is entering his 36th UFC fight this weekend and although he's never lifted a belt (he got a chance but dropped it against Dos Anjos in 2015) he's a helluva fighter that doesn't give a crap who is in front of him. Sure, Cerrone is 0-4 since June 2019, but he's also 4-5 since the start of 2018 while facing the likes of McGregor, Gaethje, and Ferguson.

Price is, how to put it, an early-stoppage magnet. He has fought 11 times under the UFC banner and all of those fights ended early. He's 6-4-1 having KO'd foes four times, getting KO'd himself three times, submitted rivals a couple of fights, and also suffered a sub-loss once. The odds are with Price here, because if there is something sweet about those early stoppages in fantasy contests is that they always come tied to some nice bonus points.

Cerrone is afraid of no one at this point, sure, but he's been KO'd three times in his last four and his volume on offense is low. Price's isn't much better, mind you, but you know that at least he will kill or get killed while at it, and although he was defeated his last time out it's still reasonable to think he'll outperform and end Cerrone. Go for those extra points on this one.

DraftKings MMA Middleweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Khamzat Chimaev, $9400 - vs. Gerald Meerschaert

Look, we have only watched Chimaev fight two times under the UFC banner, that's right, but he's 2-0 and he did so in a 10-day span back in July. Oh, and he finished his couple of foes in 1:12 (submission) and 3:09 (KO) minutes. LOL. Not the largest of samples, sure, but Chimaev couldn't have had a better start to his UFC career.

Meerschaert, on the other hand, has been around since 2016 yet he hasn't logged that many fights. He's 4-5 in his career, and 2-5 in his last seven going back to July 2017. He isn't a bad fighter, don't get me wrong, but it is not that he has proved himself against top-tier competition and when he's done so he's ended on the losing side of things.

Chimaev ridiculous dominance and super-short time inside the cage makes it hard to truly assess his abilities. That being said, he's the favorite and with reason. He's younger, he can do it standing and on the mat, and Meerschaert was mollywhopped the last time he fought getting KO'd by Ian Heinisch in just 1:14 last June.

DraftKings MMA Light Heavyweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Johnny Walker, $8300 - vs. Ryan Spann

God bless Ryan Spann and his lightning four-fight winning streak since he debuted back in 2018. In that time and those four bouts he's done it all: a KO, a submission, and two decision-wins fill his great resume. Walker, on the other hand, started rampaging (3-0, all KOs inside the first two minutes of each fight) but he's dropped two in a row via KO and the decision, the last one this very last March.

Spann has got his record by mixing a little bit of striking with some takedown-action, but he's still growing into the fighter he hopes his record truly talks about. Walker is just a murderer trapped inside an Octagon, no matter win or loss. Forget about volume when it comes to Walker, and just focus on those sweet ending bonus points.

Walker's attempted all of 80 SS in his five fights, which comes down to four per minute. He's needed no more to drop three of his foes, and that is what he'll be after this weekend. Spann comes with a pretty record, but Walkers looks like the biggest threat here north and south. I'm putting my chips on another early KO by Johnny, getting back to the winning track.

DraftKings MMA Women's Strawweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Randa Markos, $7500 - vs. Mackenzie Dern

If you're happy with assessing fighters' talent by just looking at their records, then you'll think I'm crazy by picking Markos and fading Dern. At the end of the day, Dern is 3-1 in her career, won her last fight, and her lone defeat came against Amanda Ribas almost a year ago. Markos, by comparison, is just 6-6-1 in the UFC, lost her last one, and has never won or lost back-to-back fights, alternating Ws and Ls for all of her 6-year career inside the Octagon.

But the truth is that Markos outperforms Derns in striking volume, landing rates, and most importantly, on the grappling game. Markos has attempted 37 TDs since 2017 succeeding 11 times for a 30% rate, while Dern is just 1 of 13 (7%). Sure, Dern has won a couple of fights via submission in the past couple of years, but I'm just not trusting that low volume.

This bout will probably go the distance, and in the long run, Markos should have the edge on both strike and takedown counting stats, which would bode well for her ultimately giving her a decision victory and the higher fantasy-point tally.

DraftKings MMA Middleweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Kevin Holland, $9100 - vs. Darren Stewart

Although Stewart has lost some fights here and there between his UFC appearances, he's 5-0 inside the Octagon in numbered- and Fight Night-events, going back to 2018. Holland has also won two in a row and is 5-2 since his first time inside the Octagon in 2018.

With neither fighter being adept at taking down their opponents (29 combined takedowns attempted between the two in 16 fights with just 14 landings), this will be all about hitting the hell out of the man at the opposite side of the cage. If there is a chance for the weird takedown, odds are with Holland landing it.

Anyways, you can envision some three-round, 15-minute fight happening here and I'd give my two cents to Holland getting the W home over Stewart. Kevin has knocked out his last two opponents and has landed more than 61% of his striking attempts in all of his fights, and more than 66% of them in six of his seven.

DraftKings MMA, UFC DFS Lineup Picks - Waterson vs. Hill (UFC Vegas 10)

Believe it or not, and although this is "only" UFC Vegas 10, we're about to enter the APEX for the 12th time already! Quite a few months those last ones with all of the pandemic issues going on, and we still have this weekend and next one to enjoy Vegas before we get back to Abu Dhabi for Fight Island and UFC 253. Crazy sport, a crazy schedule, and the ultimate treat for MMA fans to enjoy as much as we can. Let's go!

See, if we can get an event half as exciting as the last one, I'd be pretty pleased. UFC Vegas 9 main card offered a lot of early stoppages, both via KO and Submission. Here's to hope it happens again. There will not be top-tier names in this one such as those of Overeem or Sakai a week ago, but even with that the main-eventers Waterson and Hill rank 8th and 13th in their division and are trying to climb up for a chance at Weili Zhang's belt. Similar situation for Modafferi (7th W'Flyweight) and Lee (9th) in which truly feels like a women-loaded card full of potential future implications in two divisions.

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy MMA, UFC lineup picks for DraftKings for UFC Vegas 10: Waterson vs. Hill on 9/12/20. You can check out our FanDuel MMA DFS picks as well. These DFS lineup picks can vary from higher-priced players and elite options to lower-priced fighters and value picks on DraftKings. Give me a follow on Twitter @chapulana. Good luck!

DraftKings MMA Women's Strawweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Angela Hill, $8200- vs. Michelle Waterson

The main-eventers enter this fight having lost their last bouts, sure, but their paths there were a little different. Waterson dropped her last fight against Claudia Gadelha in May and is 4-3 since the start of 2019. Hill has lost two in a row, although those losses came against top-tier Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Carla Sparza, and going back to 2018 she's 3-2.

Hill should find the fight against Waterson as a step-down in the level of competition, making it easier for her to get back to the winning column. The opposite thing for Waterson, who is facing a freaking brave fighter in Hill although the latter hasn't been able to capitalize as of late. All things considered, this seems like a very balanced fight.

Both women throw a high volume of strikes but Hill clearly has the edge with 12.4 SSatt/min compared to Waterson's 7.0 while landing 48% of them. Waterson has the edge on the ground, though, landing 42% of his TD attempts while attempting more than twice per round than Hill. With this most probably going the distance at 15 minutes, I'll bet on Hill outperforming Waterson and getting the best of fantasy contests just on pure volume.

DraftKings MMA Lightweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Ottman Azaitar, $7700- vs. Khama Worthy

Azaitar and Worthy are very unknown assets and it is hard to make any sound predictions here because of the track record of both men. Azaitar has one fight in the UFC and Worthy just a couple. Both have yet to lose in the UFC with 1-0 and 2-0 records respectively, and all wins coming via either KO or Submission.

That's all we know, and also that neither Azaitar or Worthy are going to attempt takedowns on each other. Sure, Worthy already has a submission win attached to his name, but it didn't come by taking down Luis Pena on a TD attempt. This will be a striking bout going both ways, and the most obvious outcome would probably be a knockout of one of these two guys.

I'm going with the slight-underdog here on Azaitar, who I bet will put that 2-0 in his record and hand Worthy his first defeat in the UFC bringing him down to earth a bit.

DraftKings MMA Women's Flyweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Roxanne Modafferi, $7300 - vs. Andrea Lee

Andre Lee won her first three fights in the UFC going back to May 2018 but after that, she's dropped two straight in the past year. Modafferi, on the contrary, has been on a true rollercoaster since debuting in 2018 stringing alternating Ls and Ws from day one, having lost her last fight this past June.

Yes, you read that right. Both women enter this fight on a two- and one-fight losing streaks, and both of them need to get back to the winning column in order to bring their stocks back up a bit. While Andrea Lee has the edge on striking volume, the efficiency and lending rate of both fighters is pretty much the same around 50% for each. The same goes for the grappling side of things, with both fighters putting up close numbers.

I think Lee is the favorite (she's for Vegas, and carries a 70%+ chance of winning this bout), but if you are not about paying top-dollar for her I also think Modafferi can become a real steal at her current price and her close numbers to those of Lee. Only for that, I'd go with the underdog here as my flier with potential for an upset.

DraftKings MMA Light Heavyweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Ed Herman, $7400 - vs. Mike Rodriguez

Ed Herman has stepped into a UFC Octagon 20 times going back to 2006 (!). Rodriguez, on the other hand, will fight for the sixth time this weekend under the promotion's banner. Since 2016 Herman is 3-2 while Rodriguez carries an even 2-2-1 record since his debut back in 2018.

While Herman has a past loaded with takedown attempts and landings, those are not on his gameplan anymore. Sure, he went for 4 in his last fight but landed none, and in the prior five fights, he attempted all of two combined and landed one... Mike hasn't even gone for it once.

With this being a pure striking battle, it makes sense to find Rodriguez as the younger favorite with upside. But Herman's experience should allow him to navigate the first moments of the fight against Rodriguez, avoid an early flurry and a potential knockout, and work his way to a victory that could see him getting back to a TD W if he catches the "unexperienced" Rodriguez on the mat like in the good old days.

DraftKings MMA Featherweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Billy Quarantillo, $9300- vs. Kyle Nelson

Battle of "newcomers" here. Quarantillo will fight for the third time in the UFC carrying a perfect 2-0 in the promotion, while Nelson will step inside the Octagon for the fourth time since 2018 having a 1-2 record to this point (he won his last one via first-round KO).

Quarantillo is the heavily-favored fighter of this fight, having 72 percent chances of getting the W and carrying a -250 Vegas line compared to Nelson's 210. Truth be told, numbers also tell that story. Billy outstrikes Kyle 6.1 SSlanded/Min to 4.2, and the landing rate is incredible for the former at a staggering 82.5%. It is not only that but also the fact that Quarantillo is only hit 1.4 times per minute compared to Kyle's 6.0 SSAbsorbed/Min.

While attempting fewer TDs per minute, Quarantillo has landed a monster 75% of them while Nelson is just 2-of-12 in his last two fights... and lost one via Submission. Don't overthink this one and go with the favorite, who is looking at a 3-0 career start.

FanDuel MMA, UFC Fight Night DFS Lineup Picks - Overeem Vs. Sakai

Once again, taking place from inside the UFC APEX, Fight Night will feature some exciting bouts. In the Main Event, Alistair Overeem will take on Augusto Sakai, with both men looking for a potential title shot somewhere down the line. Ovince Saint Preux and Alonzo Menifield will also square off in a much anticipated light heavyweight battle.

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy MMA lineup picks for FanDuel for UFC Fight Night on 9/5/2020. You can check out our DraftKings MMA DFS picks as well. These DFS lineup picks can vary from higher-priced players and elite options to lower-priced fighters and value picks on FanDuel.

FanDuel MMA Heavyweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Augusto Sakai, $19 - vs. Alistair Overeem

As more and more legendary competitors hang up their gloves for good, Overeem remains active despite being north of 40. When it is all said and done, he will go down as one of the greatest heavyweights of all-time. He is a former Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion, a former DREAM Heavyweight Champion, and K-1 World Grand Prix Champion. He has handled some of the sport's most formidable competitors throughout the past few decades.

Heading into his last bout against Walt Harris back in May, "The Demolition Man" had only won two of his previous five contests. As the world expected Harris to slug his way to a decisive victory and force Overeem into retirement, the veteran shocked mostly everyone by convincingly taking down "The Big Ticket" and winning via TKO to walk away with an impressive 133 fantasy points. With a significant win such as that in the rear-view mirror, Overeem will look to score another win, this time against Augusto Sakai.

Sakai isn't a slouch either, nonetheless. With only one defeat to his name, which occurred back in 2017 against the infamous Cheick Kongo (split decision), he continues to make a name for himself by knocking his opponents silly. Since that loss, he has won his previous six fights, with four of those due to KO/TKO.

Although Overeem has gotten knocked out numerous times throughout his career, he has demonstrated that he can hang with some legit bangers. He also owns the experience edge over Sakai, and if the veteran can take him to the mat, that will be his best chance at winning. However, taking this battle south won't be easy as Sakai sports a takedown defense of 83 percent. The 29-year-old is also a head hunter and loves to throw significant strikes. If Sakai can keep this fight verticle against the future Hall of Famer, which may likely end up being the case, he will walk away with the win.

FanDuel MMA Featherweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Brian Kelleher, 18 - vs. Kevin Natividad

Kelleher will be fighting for the fourth time this year. He started the year hot by submitting Ode Osbourne--courtesy of a guillotine choke--at UFC 246 before following that performance up with an impressive knockout over Hunter Azure back in May. He then lost to Cody Stamann by decision only a few months ago and will look to get back on track on Saturday night.

After Kelleher's original opponent, Ricky Simon, was forced to withdraw after testing positive for COVID-19, he will now go toe-to-toe with newcomer Kevin Natividad. Natividad will undoubtedly be participating in the most important fight of his career after posting a 9-1 professional record since 2016. "Quicksand" had stops in several promotions throughout his tenure as a professional and has developed a nasty reputation with his hands, winning five of those nine victories by either KO or TKO.

Without a doubt, Natividad will come out and hope to make a favorable impression. He also should look to keep this fight standing in hopes of scoring a stoppage. However, with Kelleher's experience edge, this bout may end with the veteran using his grappling skills and scoring a submission victory.

FanDuel MMA Light Heavyweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Alonzo Menifield, $18 - vs. Ovince Saint Preux

Menifield has taken the mixed martial arts world by storm since making his professional debut in 2015 at Bellator 146. He is an imposing presence and is a bigger, more powerful fighter than most others in his weight class. He thoroughly enjoys hitting people and usually looks to finish things quickly. Menifield appeared to be well on his way toward becoming a future challenger for the 205 belt; however, those plans seemed to be put on hold after losing his first career fight to Devin Clark in June at UFC 250.

While Menifield's career still looks to be trending positively despite the loss, Saint Preux is attempting to remain relevant after 12 years of service and losing four fights out of his previous six stemming back to February of 2018.

Both combatants match up well. While Saint Preux is leaner, more athletic, and will likely be in better shape on the cardiovascular end, Menifield can quickly end things with a single punch. Look for the Haitian to attempt to take this one to the mat to utilize his submission game on the larger opponent. However, Menifield should be able to out-muscle Saint Preux wherever things end up, potentially resulting in a quick knockout somewhere early in the contest.

DraftKings MMA, UFC DFS Lineup Picks - Overeem vs. Sakai (UFC Fight Night 176)

At the pace the UFC is churning out events these days and has been doing during the past few months, I'm starting to worry we might run out of fighters and matches! It's been quite a packed schedule, and here we are now, already looking at UFC Vegas 9! This will mark the last single-digits even inside the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, and it will bring us some fights long overdue thanks to COVID positives and other issues that popped through the last weeks, delaying those bouts.

Headlining the event will be eternal-contender Alistair Overeem facing the young and currently no. 9 heavyweight Augusto Sakai, who is in an absolutely tearing 6-0 run (UFC and other promotions combined). We will also watch a couple of women's flyweight fights happen inside the Octagon, along with a welterweight fight and--potentially--the previously-previously-scratched bout between light heavyweights Ovince Saint Preux and Alonzo Menifield.

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy MMA, UFC lineup picks for DraftKings for UFC Fight Night 176: Overeem vs. Sakai on 9/5/20. You can check out our FanDuel MMA DFS picks as well. These DFS lineup picks can vary from higher-priced players and elite options to lower-priced fighters and value picks on DraftKings. DraftKings MMA Heavyweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Augusto Sakai, $7400 - vs. Alistair Overeem

Underdog time on the main event! Yessir! I don't think I need to introduce you to Alistair. Overeem has been around since 2011, was a monster in the mid '10s, got his chance at the belt against Miocic in 2016 (lost) and he's 2-3 in his last five bouts, although that negative record came thanks to facing top-tier competition.

Sakai has fought four times under the UFC banner and oh boy could the results have been better? I doubt it. Four fights, four wins, two early stoppages via KO (one under a minute!). Sakai's opponents have not been otherworldly, for sure, but he's just plain dominated.

Neither Overeem nor Sakai will use the ground, both will stay standing, exchange blows, and hopefully land a KO. Sakai hasn't been dropped yet, while Overeem has been KO'd in his last three defeats, which doesn't bode well for the veteran. Give me the cheap play here and let's hope for a knockout to keep that winning record as clean as it can get.

DraftKings MMA Light Heavyweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Ovince Saint Preux, $7900 - vs. Alonzo Menifield

The last time we watched OSP inside an octagon--against Ben Rothwell last May--he stepped into it at heavyweight. It didn't go that well for him, as he dropped that one on a decision and he's now back to his natural weight class at LHW. That's where OSP has fought since 2013 with a 5-4 record since the start of 2017.

Menifield only has three fights in the UFC and although he started with a perfect 2-0 record that included two KOs at under four minutes each, he went on to drop his last bout facing Devin Clark last June. Menifield is a power-packed guy, that's for sure. It only took him 8 and 33 SS landed to put his two first opponents to sleep. OSP hasn't been KO'd since November 2017, but I'm not sure he wants to exchange a lot with such a cannoneer.

It is not hard to see what could most-probably happen on this one: 9 out of 13 (69%) fights those two have been part of since 2017 have seen the winner take home some sweet bonus points thanks to early stoppages. There is no way we don't watch a finish here, even with the current UFC trend of putting on boring and slogging shows. I'm betting on some mid-round KO/Submission in which OSP finish the younger Menifield and puts the latter's early UFC career in a little bit of trouble dropping him to 2-2 after Saturday's bout.

DraftKings MMA Women's Bantamweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Sijara Eubanks, $7700 - vs. Karol Rosa

This fight looks so tight and hard to predict in terms of outcome. Let's do a quick summary here just so you know what we're facing. Eubanks has fought five times in the UFC and is 3-2 in those bouts. Rosa only has two fights, both wins (2-0). All of their combined 7 fights have gone the distance, so it's reasonable to expect that to happen once more.

Now, for some numbers, the stats are also pretty close with similar averages in strike landing rate but Eubanks getting the edge on the ground game, as she has attempted more takedowns and landed them with relative ease. Rose has been able to rack up more fantasy points in her two wins than Eubans in hers only on pure striking volume, but I always tend to go with grappling and takedowns.

This could be a very good match to go with both fighters in a stack as they could combine for a ton of fantasy points. If I had to pick a winner, though, I'd go with the underdog in Eubanks here only for the takedown prowess.

DraftKings MMA Welterweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Michel Pereira, $8200 - vs. Zelim Imadaev

If there were Game 7s in MMA, this would definitely be one for both Pereira and Imadaev. Mike enters this fight with a 1-2 record in the UFC with both of his losses in the past year and the win back in May 2019. Zelim is a null 0-2 in the UFC and the last time he fought (Nov. 2019) he was KO'd by Danny Roberts.

Other than the time he got his only win, Pereira has never topped 49 DKFP, which is ridiculously low even in losing efforts. Imadaev himself has topped at an even worse 32 fantasy points... This is not very exciting, but both men are fighting for their lives and a chance to keep in the promotion by elevating their profiles a bit with a W, so at least we know they'll be motivated to try and snatch that win as hell.

As in the blurb above, this fight could also turn into a very close one decided by a small detail. That detail, though, I see coming from Pereira. Mike clearly has the edge on grappling, tries some takedowns here and there, and importantly lands them. I guess the lack of high fantasy point tallies will be there no matter what, but hey, gotta find value wherever you can, right?

DraftKings MMA Lightweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Jalin Turner, $7200 - vs. Thiago Moises

This is a fun one because it looks all the way that the infamous Spiderman pointing-meme. Check this out, and believe me although it doesn't seem true: Turner has four fights in the UFC; Moises has four fights in the UFC. Turner is 2-2; Moises is 2-2. Turner's fights have gone L-W-L-W; Moises' fights have gone L-W-L-W. It's about time something changes!

There is a glaring difference between these two fighters, though. Moises has gone to decision three of four times while getting his lone win via submission. Turner, on the other hand, has fought 15 minutes only once with his other three fights (2 wins, 1 loss) ending in KO. Turner has put to bed two of his UFC foes in under two rounds, which I think gives him a higher ceiling thanks to the potential bonus-point bounty.

Moises chances go through the ground game, as he often attempts to land takedowns but is not very very great at it with just a 17% TD rate. Whoever loses this bout won't do much for his fantasy owners, and given Turner's ceiling and chances of a KO are higher I'd go with him.

DraftKings MMA, UFC DFS Lineup Picks - Smith vs. Rakic (UFC Fight Night 175)

Another weekend, another UFC event. The show must go on, I guess. This Saturday we'll be back at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, where the eighth event to take place in the promotion's training complex will take place. Just three weeks ago we lost what was going to be the main event of the main card of this one, but it is not that the replacement fight looks any bad, though.

Former LHW champ Anthony Smith and Aleksandar Rakic are the ones slated to headline this weekend's card, and although Geoff Neal was the one scheduled to face Neil Magny at welterweight, it will finally be long-time staple Robbie Lawler who will do so. Add a rematch between Ankalaev and Cutelaba and a few more fights to the card and we have ourselves a nice one coming.

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy MMA, UFC lineup picks for DraftKings for UFC Fight Night 175: Smith vs. Rakic on 8/22/20. You can check out our FanDuel MMA DFS picks as well. These DFS lineup picks can vary from higher-priced players and elite options to lower-priced fighters and value picks on DraftKings. Give me a follow on Twitter @chapulana. Good luck!

DraftKings MMA Light Heavyweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Anthony Smith, $7500 - vs. Aleksandar Rakic

Had Smith not lost his decision against Jones, who knows how things would look these days? Alas, he did. So here we are, with a Smith about to enter the cage carrying a 1-2 losing record in his last three bouts, all of them since the start of 2019 and the last one this past May. Rakic comes with a very similar profile in the win-loss column, having lost his last fight against Volkan Oezdemir in December and boasting a 4-1 record since his 2017 debut.

While Rakic has shown finish-prowess in the UFC (he's KO'd his opponents inside the first round in his last two wins), the thing is that Smith has been much more prone to close fights early: Smith's last six wins came via submission (two times) or KO (four), and he only has gone the distance one time in 2016--and against Jones in a loss.

Neither fighter offers much upside when it comes to the ground game, and Smith enters this fight as the underdog with fewer than 25% chances of winning the affair per Vegas. I'm hesitant to buy into that, though, even less at his price. Although Smith has lowered his defensive numbers lately, I'm banking on a potential early win here with bonus points going his way.

DraftKings MMA Welterweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Neil Magny, $8600 - vs. Robbie Lawler

If there is anything these two have done in their lives, that's definitely fighting. Lawler and Magny have been inside the UFC Octagon a combined 43 times, and Lawler has even had the time to be part of the promotion, fight for a belt, leave for greener pastures, then come back in 2013 coinciding with Magny's debut. This is bonkers.

Lawler's best days are probably over. It's been more than four years since his last title fight, and he's currently on a three-fight losing streak with a 1-3 record since 2017. He's lost to top-tier competition lately, though, so it is not that we can murder him. Magny, on the other hand, has won his last two fights (both in 2020) and is 4-2 since 2017, though only with one early stoppage.

Lawler has a clear edge on striking, landing 4.9 SS per minute on an incredible 56.9% success rate compared to Magny's 3.3 on 44% success. He also attempts over a SS more than Magny does... and eats strikes for breakfast absorbing 4.9 per minute to Magny's 2.5 on similar percentages. Magny is often the one attempting more takedowns, though, and Lawlers is always targeted there allowing 37.35% of the TDs he sees. Magny has a great chance at getting the win here and become the best fantasy play if only because of those takedown points.

DraftKings MMA Women's Flyweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Alexa Grasso, $9100 - vs. Ji Yeon Kim

Contrasting background that of these two women. While Ji dropped her first UFC fight to Lucie Pudilova, she then went on to win her next three fights including knocking out her last foe for a 3-1 record since 2017. Grasso, though, won her first but is now 3-3 alternating wins and losses for all of his UFC career. She lost her last one against Carla Esparza.

Both of these fighters throw strikes in bunches although not with the greatest of landing rates, and neither of them seems to know what a takedown is. The numbers are really close and might be a close one in which the right hit at the right time might be critical. Grasso's got some heavy power in those fists, and even if this goes the distance--which is the most probable outcome--she should be the one whose hand is raised at the end of it.

DraftKings MMA Featherweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Ricardo Lamas, $9200 - vs. Bill Algeo

I know picking the chalk play is boring, but I don't think there is any other option here. While it is true that Lamas has dropped three of his last five fights since 2017, and most importantly his last one and the only in which he appeared in 2019, he knows what the UFC is about. He's been around since 2011. Algeo, though? He's making his debut... and comes from losing his latest fight.

Even if not the greatest to ever step inside an Octagon, Lamas resume and list of foes--win or loss--is staggering. That's good and all, but the important thing is that he has a well-rounded game that is predicated on both striking and grappling, with monster ground-striking abilities. Algeo is all about the ground game and those sweet submissions. Anyways, I'm betting on an outperformed Algeo losing this one to Lamas, with the UFC veteran getting the W here and the best of fantasy contests.

Lamas has also KO'd/submitted his opponents in his last three wins, so there is upside to get some bonus early-stoppage points attached to his name.

DraftKings MMA Light Heavyweight UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Ion Cutelaba, $7200 - vs. Magomed Ankalaev

It's been just six months since the last time we saw these two... inside the same cage at the same time. Back at the end of February, this couple met for the first time and Ankalaev "knocked out" Cutelaba in all of 38 seconds. He needed to land 8 SS to claim the win. Uh, oh.

That's not a fluke, though. Ankalaev is 4-1 in the UFC with all of those victories strung from 2018 to this very year. Cutelaba, though, is 1-2 since 2019 and 4-3 overall; good, but not great. Both men have some grappling abilities, but it's all about them strikes for these two. You know what? That first fight finish was weird, to say the least. I'm giving a second chance to Cutelaba here because he couldn't even try himself against Magomed. He looked a bit rocked, yes, but let's give him a little more of room to operate and see what he can do, even more at that ridiculously low price.

FanDuel MMA, UFC Fight Night DFS Lineup Picks - Munhoz Vs. Edgar

UFC Fight Night will once again take place inside the confines of the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada. While this card obviously doesn't feature the the type of main event that UFC 252 had, Pedro Munhoz and Frankie Edgar should certainly be entertaining.

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy MMA lineup picks for FanDuel for UFC Fight Night on 8/22/2020. You can check out our DraftKings MMA DFS picks as well. These DFS lineup picks can vary from higher-priced players and elite options to lower-priced fighters and value picks on FanDuel.

Give me a follow on Twitter @DennisMClausen. Good luck.

FanDuel MMA Bantamweight - UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Pedro Munhoz, $21 - vs. Frankie Edgar

Munhoz and Edgar will go toe-to-toe to main event Fight Night on Saturday. While Edgar, who will be making his debut in the bantamweight division, will look to avoid another loss, Munhoz could be looking at a future tight opportunity with a win.

Munhoz will be entering the octagon for the first time since losing to Aljamain Sterling at UFC 238 in June 2019. Since then, the 33-year-old has tested positive for the notorious COVID-19 virus, which obviously could hinder his performance against the veteran.

Edgar is a former lightweight champion who holds victories over some of the most legendary fighters in the sport. He will also be entering this contest on the wrong side of the win column. He lost to Max Halloway at UFC 240 last Summer and was dispatched by Chan Sung Jung via TKO in December. A loss here may be the end of "The Answer's" tenure with the organization.

Both fighters are relatively the same size, with Edgar holding a slight edge in both reach and leg reach. In terms of striking, Munhoz leads the way with 5.29 significant strikes per minute. He also absorbs a lot more shots than his opponent. Edgar is more aggressive in the wrestling department and averages over two takedown attempts per 15 minutes. With a takedown defense of 81 percent, getting the Brazilian down to the mat will be no easy task, however. As a result, it is logical to assume that Munhoz will keep this one vertical and slug (or submit) his way to a win, possibly even inside the first round.

FanDuel MMA Flyweight- UFC DFS Lineup Picks

Mariya Agapova, $19 - vs. Shana Dobson

Agapova has won her previous three professional bouts. She signed with the Ultimate Fight Championship back in February and immediately made a statement by submitting Hannah Cifers with a rear-naked choke on June 13. This will be her second bout in just over two months, with a potential tight fight coming soon if she can rack up another win.

Dobson, on the other hand, could be looking at her final battle under the UFC banner. Going back to April of 2018, the 31-year-old has lost three-in-a-row, losing to Priscila Cachoeira by knockout in February.

While Dobson, or anyone for that matter, has a chance at winning, odds are she will be packing her bags after Saturday night. Look for this one to end quickly, potentially ending by either submission or strikes by Agapova somewhere in the first round. Make sure she is in your lineup.

Also Consider: Mike Rodriguez ($19), Daniel Rodriguez ($18), Dwight Grant ($17), Mizuki Inoue ($16), Joseph Solecki ($16), Amanda Lemos ($15)
