Yoenis Cespedes will not participate in the New York Mets workouts on Friday.
The outfielder is dealing with a shoulder issue that he suffered at some point prior to Game 4 on Wednesday. Cespedes didn’t receive a cortisone shot, which could be good news for the severity of the injury. It could be simply a sore shoulder that needs some rest to heal.

The Mets are probably holding the 30-year-old out as a precaution since they don’t have to open the World Series until Tuesday. It buys Cespedes some time to get healthy again.
In 34 at-bats this postseason, the cleanup hitter has racked up 9 hits, 2 HR and 7 RBI. It’s not the best numbers but considering some of the pitchers he faced, it’s pretty solid. With the way Daniel Murphy is hitting the ball, Cespedes will either get better pitches to hit or will have a lot of chances to hit with runners on base.
