Coby White (PG, CHI): Week 19 Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add In 14+ Team Leagues

OWNED IN: 24% of leagues

ANALYSIS: While Coby White hasn't started a single game for the Bulls in his rookie season, at least he's taking baby steps toward improving his overall game steadily. Chicago has been giving White more chances lately by ramping up his minutes (under 24 per game before February, more than 29 since). As many other newcomers, White is scoring a bunch of points but doing so on bad percentages and high attempt numbers. Good for fantasy owners, though, his other statistical categories are looking a little bit better these days.

White had a moderately "good" start to his season performing like a top-80 player during the first month of the campaign. He averaged a 14-4-2 line in that span even scoring 25+ points in four games during that run. The problems appeared at the end of November and went on through late-January, though, as he could only average a paltry 9-3-2 line in those 30+ games. Going back to Jan. 31, White has played at least 24 minutes in his last seven games and is putting up a much better 14.6 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 4.3 apg, and 0.7 spg in that span.

While the shooting percentages are low (a horrific 34.3% from the floor says it all...) the truth is that the points keep coming (he exploded for 33 against Phoenix this past Saturday) and White has shown the ability to score from the three-point line with ease at times (he's had five games with 5+ triples on the season and scored a season-high seven treys in that same game against Phoenix the other night) while hitting 1.9 triples per game in his last 15 games and 2.2 in his last five. If you're hurting for points nightly without caring for much more, White is a good option. If you have room to stash him a bit and trust his rest of contributions (not bad for deeper leagues), then totally make him part of your roster.
