Coco Crisp was activated from the DL and made his 2015 debut Wednesday as he joined the Oakland Athletics in Minnesota against the Twins. Crisp went 0-for-4 while leading off for the Athletics as they were drubbed 13-0 by the Twins.
The speedy outfielder needed surgery in April to remove bone chips from his elbow. The estimated timetable for a return was six-to-eight weeks. Crisp, 35, is right on schedule as he hopes to bounce back from a down year in 2014. He had a career-low .246 BA, only 19 SB, but did have a career-high in BB (66).
Crisp had been on a rehabilitation assignment with the Class High-A Stockton Ports and appeared in two games, going 2-for-8 with a double, a walk, a no strikeouts, according to Athleticsnation.com. He played both games in left field, where he successfully completed four chances. Two games appears to be enough for Crisp to rejoin the main roster as the A’s try to dig out of a 12-16 start this season.
"Let's see how the treatment goes," Oakland Manager Bob Melvin told Yahoo Sports, regarding treatment on Crisp’s elbow, "and we'll see how he feels after that."
Craig Gentry has been sent down in a corresponding move.
Crisp will play most days in left and be inserted at the top of the A’s lineup.
