ANALYSIS: Cole Anthony, the rookie out of Manhattan, became the Magic no. 15th pick in the 2020 NBA draft. With starter Markelle Fultz improving on a game-to-game basis, he was always going to be bench-fodder at least for the time being... until Fultz went down injured and will now miss the whole season. Enter starting PG Cole Anthony, something he's been every night going back to Jan. 8th.
Anthony, truth be told, is struggling a lot when it comes to shooting the rock. His FG% is at a paltry 34.2 percent on the season, and that's just not going to cut it in this league for long, let alone if you're a starter. That being said, though, Anthony's starting role and ample playing time are making up for some of his deficiencies. Cole is putting up 12.1 PPG as a starter, he's hit 1+ trey in all of those games except one, and 2+ in his last three matches.
When it comes to the rest of the categories, Anthony is averaging better numbers with 4.5 RPG, 3.7 APG, and 0.7 SPG against just 1.7 TO per game. Anthony has played the most games (15) and minutes (368) among rookies through Thursday night. He's also a top-5 rookie in rebounds, assist, and points per game--that is, including the games he didn't start when his stats were way lower.
