New York Mets manager Terry Collins won The Sporting News National League Manager of the Year, which was voted by his fellow NL managers.
Collins led the Mets to a 90-win season and the NL East crown despite having plenty of troubles prior to the trade deadline. The 66-year-old is currently managing his team in the World Series against the Kansas City Royals.
The vote breakdown of the 13 votes: One for Chicago Cubs manager Joe Madon, five for St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny and seven for Collins.
"I'm humbled by that, because there are some great managers in this league -- very, very good ones," Collins said about the honor before Game 1 of the World Series. "But I like to sit where I'm sitting. I like where I'm at -- not where some of those guys are. I'm thrilled by it."
It’s the first Manager of the Year award for Collins.
