Michael Conforto will serve as the DH for Game 2 of the World Series instead of playing left field like he did for Game 1 on Tuesday.
After a blunder with Yoenis Cespedes in the outfield that led to an inside-the-park home run, Conforto will play but not play the field on Wednesday against the Kansas City Royals. Juan Lagares going 2-for-3 off the bench while also being a Gold Glover has forced the New York Mets’ hand to put him in the field and move Cespedes over to left.
The 22-year-old rookie went 0-for-2 with a sac-fly. Lagares came in and did a great job at the plate while Kelly Johnson, Michael Cuddyer and Kirk Nieuwenhus went a combined 0-for-5 at the plate. Conforto will get a chance as the DH while being a power-hitting lefty against right-hander Johnny Cueto.
The full Mets lineup: Curtis Granderson RF, David Wright 3B, Daniel Murphy 2B, Cespedes LF, Lucas Duda 1B, Travis d'Arnaud C, Conforto DH, Wilmer Flores SS, Lagares CF. Jacob deGrom will start on the hill.
