San Francisco Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford left Tuesday’s game against the Chicago Cubs with tightness in his left side and lower back, according to San Jose Mercury News.
Giants manager Bruce Bochy told the news outlet that he hopes Crawford could suit up and play in Wednesday’s second game of three with the Cubs. There’s a better chance he’ll miss a few games since it’s more than one issue.
The 28-year-old is a key component of the San Fran defense as well as the offense since Crawford made his first All-Star team this season. The righty is having a career season with a .265 BA, .806 OPS, 19 HR and 75 RBI, all of which are career highs with 37 games to go.
The Giants are 2 1/2 games out of first place in the NL West behind the Los Angeles Dodgers. It’s likely that the only way San Fran can get into the postseason is by winning the division because it trails the Cubbies by 7 1/2 games for the second Wild Card spot. It could use Crawford because he’s only missed four games the entire season.
