Daily Fantasy Hockey Lineup Picks (10/23/16): NHL DFS Cheat Sheet

RotoBallers, welcome back to our daily fantasy hockey (NHL DFS) lineup picks for FanDuel, DraftKings and FantasyAces. Below you will find our NHL cheat sheet - DFS lineup picks, sleepers and stacks for Sunday, October 23rd of the 2016/2017 NHL season.

Sunday brings us a smaller four game slate but some very nice matchups for fantasy. Three teams(MIN, VAN, NYR) are playing on back to back nights and as of now only two goalies(Miller-Van, Talbot-Edm) are confirmed starting. Be sure to check ledtwinglock before lineups lock.

For those that are new to this, each day we'll be providing you with a few of our top DFS lineup picks for daily league cash games on FanDuel, DraftKings, and FantasyAces. We will also provide you with one of our favorite teams to stack for GPPs. You can grab the rest of our Premium DFS lineup picks and stacks through the NHL Cheat Sheet and DFS Premium Pass below.

NHL Daily League Lineup Picks for Sunday, October 23rd

Connor McDavid (C, EDM)

DraftKings - $8,400, FanDuel - $8,300, FantasyAces - $5,900

On a small slate Sunday it is going to be near impossible to avoid McDavid. He has picked up right where he left off last season and has already recorded eight points in his first five games. He is averaging over three shots a game giving him a nice floor and has crazy multi point upside for tournaments.

Corey Perry (W, ANH)

DraftKings - $6,400, FanDuel - $7,100, FantasyAces - $5,250

Speaking of high floors there is no one with a higher one than Corey Perry who is averaging four shots on goal per game to start the season. He has also recorded points in three of his first five games despite the Ducks struggling early with just 10 goals overall. His best value is on FantasyAces as he is the 8th most expensive option at the position.

 Kris Russell (D, EDM)

DraftKings - $4,400, FanDuel - $3,600, FantasyAces - $4,650

One of the safest at the position if you are playing cash games. He provides a sky high floor with blocked shots as he is averaging just shy of four per game while also adding 1-2 shots per game. He doesn't have much upside as the offense is limited but he has already recorded three points in the Oilers first five games.

Stacking Option

New York Rangers PP - Mike Zibanejad, Chris Kreider, Brandon Pirri, Mats Zuccarello, Ryan McDonagh

It's pretty simple today. Target the Coyotes who are playing on back to back nights, a third game in four nights and a fourth game in six nights this week. They have also struggled defensively this season allowing 18 goals in their first five games(4.5 per game). The Rangers PP has looked decent to start the season scoring three goals with the man advantage in their first five games.

Bonus: General NHL DFS Strategy Notes

For cash games, look at players who can contribute to your score even when they are not providing offense. Some examples are guys who take a ton of shots and defensemen who block a lot of shots. Also, look for guys who get power play time. You can find value in players who join a new line due to an injury, or just get a promotion and more ice time. It is also recommended to spread out your exposure to three or four different lines, and not put all your eggs in one basket.

For large field tournaments (GPPs), find payers who have multi-point upside and can grab double-digit fantasy points. If you want to stack the most upside in your forwards, a common strategy is to punt the defense position. This doesn't mean just grab anyone - try and look for a defenseman who will get power play time, or a playing time boost due to an injury. For a contrarian approach, paying up at the defense position can be a great strategy - but it also comes with more risk. GPPs bring a great opportunity for goaltenders in the value price range - you can look for backups on good teams.
