Daily Fantasy Hockey Lineup Picks (11/05/16): NHL DFS Cheat Sheet

RotoBallers, welcome back to our daily fantasy hockey (NHL DFS) lineup picks for FanDuel, DraftKings and FantasyAces. Below you will find our NHL cheat sheet - DFS lineup picks, sleepers and stacks for Saturday, November 5 of the 2016/2017 NHL season.

Busy day in the National Hockey League today with 13 games. With just one afternoon matchup between the Wild and Avalanche we are left with a big 12 game main slate that kick off at 7:00 p.m. ET. Just two teams(MON & CBJ) are playing on back to back nights but there are five teams(MON, PHI, PIT & VAN) playing a third game in four nights.

For those that are new to this, each day we'll be providing you with a few of our top DFS lineup picks for daily league cash games on FanDuel, DraftKings, and FantasyAces. We will also provide you with one of our favorite teams to stack for GPPs. You can grab the rest of our Premium DFS lineup picks and stacks through the NHL Cheat Sheet and DFS Premium Pass below.

Editor's Note: New users that sign up on Fantasy Aces, make a $20 deposit, and enter any game will receive our full season NHL Premium Pass (DFS Cheat Sheets) for free, a $99.99 value. NHL Daily League Lineup Picks for Saturday, November 5

 Alex Galchenyuk (C, MON)

DraftKings - $6,700, FanDuel - $6,100, FantasyAces - $5,200

After getting embarrassed last night by the Blue Jackets we should expect a much better effort from the Habs tonight. Recency bias should help keep their ownership s down making it a great time to jump on board one of the top offenses in the league. It also helps they get an elite matchup against a Flyers team giving up over 3.5 goals per game.

Marian Hossa (W, CHI)

DraftKings - $6,000, FanDuel - $5,600, FantasyAces - $5,500

At 37 years old it appears Hossa has a lot left in the tank. He is playing with some very talented youth in Artem Anisimov who leads the league with 14 points and Artemi Panarin, the reigning Calder Trophy winner. Hossa has points in three of his last four games and will have a great shot to add to his totals against a Stars team struggling on defense, allowing 3.1 goals per game.

Alec Martinez (D, LAK)

DraftKings - $4,600, FanDuel - $4,700, FantasyAces - $5,100

At a very affordable mid tier price, Martinez continues to fill the fantasy stat sheet. After picking up two assists vs. the Penguins he now has nine points in 11 games this season. He provides a  nice floor with shots and blocks and is getting 23+ minutes per game, over two minutes which is coming on the powerplay. He is safe in all formats against a weak defensive Flames team.

Stacking Option

St. Louis Blues - Vladimir Tarasenko, Jori Lehtera, Jaden Schwartz

The Blues top line will be a bit contrarian tonight as their offense ranks 28th early in the season. They also don't get the most favorable matchup against the Blue Jackets who rank in the Top 10 in defense but are playing the second of back to back games. While I would not consider any of the Blues in cash games I think they make a great GPP option tonight and the upside begins with elite goal scorer Vladimir Tarasenko. Fitting them in with a top goalie will also not be an issue as Jori Lehtera comes at punt prices while Jaden Shcwartz sits in the mid tier.

Bonus: General NHL DFS Strategy Notes

For cash games, look at players who can contribute to your score even when they are not providing offense. Some examples are guys who take a ton of shots and defensemen who block a lot of shots. Also, look for guys who get power play time. You can find value in players who join a new line due to an injury, or just get a promotion and more ice time. It is also recommended to spread out your exposure to three or four different lines, and not put all your eggs in one basket.

For large field tournaments (GPPs), find payers who have multi-point upside and can grab double-digit fantasy points. If you want to stack the most upside in your forwards, a common strategy is to punt the defense position. This doesn't mean just grab anyone - try and look for a defenseman who will get power play time, or a playing time boost due to an injury. For a contrarian approach, paying up at the defense position can be a great strategy - but it also comes with more risk. GPPs bring a great opportunity for goaltenders in the value price range - you can look for backups on good teams.
