We have a split slate today with two games in the afternoon followed by a huge 10 game main slate. The picks in this article will cover the main slate only. There are several teams playing a back to back and a third game in four nights so be sure to check out the matchup chart that is included with the Premium content.

NHL Daily League Lineup Picks for Saturday, January 14 

For those that are new to this, each day we'll be providing you with a few of our top DFS lineup picks for daily league cash games on FanDuel, DraftKings, and FantasyAces. Jeff Carter (C, LAK)

DraftKings - $7,100, FanDuel - $8,100, FantasyAces - $5,800

Carter makes a nice pivot play off the rest of the elite centers tonight with so many options available. He currently sits second behind Sidney Crosby in goals and comes into tonight's game with points in three straight including two multi-point efforts. He gets an elite matchup tonight at home facing a Jets team that ranks 28th in defense and is playing a back to back and third game in four nights.

Jeff Skinner (W, CAR)

DraftKings - $6,600, FanDuel - $6,800, FantasyAces - $5,550

This just in! Jeff Skinner is good at hockey. He doesn't quite get the recognition of others as he plays in what seems to be a hockey dead zone when it comes to the media. Well, he has been red-hot wit six points in his last two games and now has 35 points through his first 41 games of the season. The price is relatively affordable considering the matchup vs. the Islanders who are also playing a back to back and third game in four nights.

Jared Spurgeon (D, MIN)

DraftKings - $4,700, FanDuel - $5,400, FantasyAces - $4,850

The sites have close to caught up in salary as Spurgeon stays hot for the Wild. He is playing top minutes alongside Ryan Suter and is just five points behind with four less games played. He also has bee providing a safe floor with a balance of shots and blocks. He is safe in all formats.

Stacking Option

Edmonton Oilers - Connor McDavid, Patrick Maroon, Lon Draistail

Although the Flames have snuck into the Top 20 in defense lately, they will be playing a back to back and third game in four nights. That is good news for one of the hottest lines in the league lately. Over their last 10 games played the three players have combined for 27 points and now skate together on the top line and all get top minutes on the powerplay.

Bonus: General NHL DFS Strategy Notes

For cash games, look at players who can contribute to your score even when they are not providing offense. Some examples are guys who take a ton of shots and defensemen who block a lot of shots. Also, look for guys who get power play time. You can find value in players who join a new line due to an injury, or just get a promotion and more ice time. It is also recommended to spread out your exposure to three or four different lines, and not put all your eggs in one basket.

For large field tournaments (GPPs), find payers who have multi-point upside and can grab double-digit fantasy points. If you want to stack the most upside in your forwards, a common strategy is to punt the defense position. This doesn't mean just grab anyone - try and look for a defenseman who will get power play time, or a playing time boost due to an injury. For a contrarian approach, paying up at the defense position can be a great strategy - but it also comes with more risk. GPPs bring a great opportunity for goaltenders in the value price range - you can look for backups on good teams.
