RotoBallers, welcome back to our daily fantasy hockey (NHL DFS) lineup picks for FanDuel, DraftKings and FantasyAces. Below you will find our NHL cheat sheet - DFS lineup picks, sleepers and stacks for Tuesday, December 13 of the 2016/2017 NHL season.
Busy night in the NHL with 10 games on the schedule after a slow two game slate on Monday night. The majority of the league will be trying to stop the torrid pace of the Eastern Conference's Metropolitan division who have seen three game or better winning streaks from each of the top five teams. Everyone should be well rested after the weekend with only one team(ARI) playing on a back to back night.
Editor's Note: New users that sign up on Fantasy Aces, make a $20 deposit, and enter any game will receive our full season NHL Premium Pass (DFS Cheat Sheets) for free, a $99.99 value. Cam Ward (G, CAR)
DraftKings - $7,700, FanDuel - $8,300, FantasyAces - $7,500
He is not going to be a safe option for cash games but makes a very intriguing tournament play tonight. The Hurricanes open as -190 favorites at home to the Canucks who have lost two straight and have been horrible on the road this season(4-10-1). It's been an up and down year for Ward(9-8-5) but he has been rock solid at home winning six of eight starts with an impressive .941 save percentage.
John Tavares (C, NYI)
DraftKings - $7,000, FanDuel - $8,200, FantasyAces - $5,400
His best value is definitely DraftKings tonight but with a very low projected ownership, he can be considered on all sites for your tournament lineups. He has been red hot scoring in three straight and recording a point in seven of his last eight games and is the one bright spot in a weak lineup.
Joe Pavelski (W, SJ)
DraftKings - $7,400, FanDuel - $7,900, FantasyAces - $5,500
If you aren't paying up for Ovi tonight take the savings and extreme value with Joe Pavelski. He is under $8K on both DraftKings and FanDuel and has tallied nine points in his last 10 games. What makes him safe in cash games tonight is the high shot volume as he is averaging four shots on goal per game in those last 10 games. He also gets an elite matchup vs. the Leafs 28th ranked defense that is allowing 3.00 goals per game.
Rasmus Ristolainen (D, BUF)
DraftKings - $5,600, FanDuel - $5,200, FantasyAces - $5,400
He comes with an elite price on FantasyAces but is a terrific value play on both other sites. He has tallied points in three straight games including a three point game vs. the Oilers last week. He provides a safe floor averaging over three shots and two blocks per game over his last 10 played. Roll him out with confidence.
Stacking Option
Carolina Hurricanes - Jeff Skinner, Victor Rask, Derek Ryan
Just like Ward, this stack is best utilized in tournaments where it is both affordable and should be low owned. The Hurricanes return tonight where they have been much better and get a plus matchup against the Canucks who have surrendered three or more goals in three of their last four road games. Looking at line combinations from their previous game, Skinner, Rask and Ryan also played together on the powerplay.

Bonus: General NHL DFS Strategy Notes
For cash games, look at players who can contribute to your score even when they are not providing offense. Some examples are guys who take a ton of shots and defensemen who block a lot of shots. Also, look for guys who get power play time. You can find value in players who join a new line due to an injury, or just get a promotion and more ice time. It is also recommended to spread out your exposure to three or four different lines, and not put all your eggs in one basket.
For large field tournaments (GPPs), find payers who have multi-point upside and can grab double-digit fantasy points. If you want to stack the most upside in your forwards, a common strategy is to punt the defense position. This doesn't mean just grab anyone - try and look for a defenseman who will get power play time, or a playing time boost due to an injury. For a contrarian approach, paying up at the defense position can be a great strategy - but it also comes with more risk. GPPs bring a great opportunity for goaltenders in the value price range - you can look for backups on good teams.
