NHL DFS Picks for Thursday, January 14th
Welcome back to the Thursday night edition of daily fantasy picks brought to you by Rotoballer. Tonight we have another 8 game slate in the NHL and no teams are playing on back to back nights. The San Jose Sharks are the only team who is playing a third game in four nights. They are also at home tonight and red hot winning three in a row so the third game in four nights shouldn't affect them too much.
Let's take a look at a few core plays for tonight.
Brian Elliott - Goaltender, Blues (DraftKings - $7,600 FanDuel - $7,400)
Top goaltender tonight comes from the Blues who have seen their starter, Jake Allen go down with injury. Elliott has stepped in and won his first two starts and only allowed three total goals. He will get another shot tonight as the Blues are home favorites(-165) to the Hurricanes. A very affordable price tag makes him safe in all formats.
Nathan MacKinnon - Center, Avalanche (DraftKings - $7,000 FanDuel - $7,200)
While he has only recorded eight points in his last 10 games he has provided a very high floor with 43 shots on goal. He also provides a ton of upside on the leagues 7th ranked offense and 5th ranked powerplay. Carolina has been hot lately winning three in a row reserving MacKinnon to GPP only status tonight.
Patrick Kane - Winger, Blackhawks (DraftKings - $8,900 FanDuel - $9,000)
The NHL points leader(63) has been extremely consistent this year and has picked up 13 points in his last 10 games and recorded 40 shots on goal. The Hawks will ride an eight game win streak into Montreal tonight to face the struggling Canadiens who are 3-7 over their last 10 games.
Filip Forsberg - Winger, Predators (DraftKings - $5,800 FanDuel - $7,600)
He is tied with Mike Ribeiro for second in team points with 28 on the year. Of those 28 points, 13 have come on the powerplay where the Preds make their most damage ranked 9th in the league. The travel to Winnipeg tonight to face the Jets who rank 4th in penalty minutes per game. Great GPP matchup and powerplay line stack.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson - Defense, Coyotes (DraftKings - $5,900 FanDuel - $5,600)
Coming off a four point game vs. Edmonton on Tuesday, he continues to provide excellent value night in and night out. He has now reach 32 points on the season with eight coming on the powerplay. He averages 15.3 shot attempts per 60 minutes which has produced 132 shots on goal giving him a very high floor.
