NHL DFS Picks for Sunday, December 27th
With an unbalanced schedule this week due to the three day Christmas break, we have a nine game slate tonight. There are seven teams playing on back to back nights with six of them(ARI, BOS, CAR, CBJ, PIT, STL) playing the second game on the road. For the most part we will want to avoid players on these teams in our cash game lineups.
A couple strategy notes. For cash game construction look for players who can contribute to your score when they are not providing offense. Examples are guys who take a ton of shots, defensemen who block a lot of shots(DraftKings). Also, look for guys who get powerplay time and especially Top 6 forwards. You can find value in players who join a new line due to an injury or just get a promotion and more ice time.
For large field tournaments(GPP's) you want to find payers who have multi point upside and can grab double digit fantasy points. To stack the most upside in your forwards a common strategy is to punt the defense position. This doesn't mean just grab anyone. Try and look for a D man who will be playing more PP time or might get a boost in overall playing time due to an injury.
With that, let's dig in to find some core plays for Sunday night.
Corey Crawford - Goaltender, Blackhawks (DraftKings - $8,000 FanDuel - $9,700)
He went in to the break going 7-2-1 with a .944 save % in his last 10 starts. He has been especially dominant at home this year and helped the Blackhawks to a league best 14 home wins. Chicago is in a very favorable matchup on Sunday vs. the Hurricanes playing on back to back nights.
Patrice Bergeron - Center, Bruins (DraftKings - $7,200 FanDuel - $7,500)
He has been extremely consistent this season and picked up a goal in a loss to the Sabres Saturday night. Look for a bounce back game from Boston on the road where they have played much better this season. For tournaments stack with Brad Marchand and Loui Eriksson.
John Gaudreau - Winger, Flames (DraftKings - $6,800 FanDuel - $9,200)
The home/road splits of "Johnny Hockey" this season are like none other. On the road he has 10 points in 18 games and a disappointing -10 rating. At home he has 13 goals, 14 assists, and an incredible +17 rating in 16 games. He is a much better value on DraftKings where he is safe in any format and is a great tournament play on FanDuel.
Artemi Panarin - Winger, Blackhawks (DraftKings - $5,600 FanDuel - $5,500)
He leads all rookies in points(31) and is six points clear of Max Domi at the break. He benefits from playing on a line with superstar Patrick Kane. Very affordable price making him safe in all formats.
Erik Johnson - Defense, Avalanche (DraftKings - $5,300 FanDuel - $4,500)
He makes a great cash game play on both sites with an average over 2.5 shots on net per game. He adds a ton of extra value on DraftKings where he receives bonus points for his 13th rank in blocked shots.
