NHL DFS Picks for Monday, February 29th

A couple strategy notes. For cash game construction look for players who can contribute to your score when they are not providing offense. Examples are guys who take a ton of shots, defensemen who block a lot of shots(DraftKings). Also, look for guys who get powerplay time and especially Top 6 forwards. You can find value in players who join a new line due to an injury or just get a promotion and more ice time.

For large field tournaments (GPP's) you want to find payers who have multi point upside and can grab double digit fantasy points. To stack the most upside in your forwards a common strategy is to punt the defense position. This doesn't mean just grab anyone. Try and look for a D man who will be playing more PP time or might get a boost in overall playing time due to an injury.

Let's take a look at some solid plays for today's action.

Henrik Lundqvist - Goaltender, Rangers (DraftKings - $8,700 FanDuel - $10,000)

It seems like the Rangers and their fearless leader step up their game at the right time every season. After getting off to a hot start in the first month of the season, the Rangers stumbled quite a bit after Derek Stepan went down with injury. Now, with February winding down, the Rangers have put themselves in a solid position to make the playoffs, sitting in second place in the Metropolitan division five points ahead of the New York Islanders. Thanks in part to Lundqvist's eight wins in 11 starts this month. The Rangers will finish February facing the Columbus Blue Jackets in a solid matchup.

Marc-Andre Fleury - Goaltender, Penguins (DraftKings - $8,100 FanDuel - $9,200)

Fleury also heads into a solid matchup on Monday against the Arizona Coyotes. The Coyotes have lost five straight games and ten of 13 this month. Fleury has had a bit of an up and down February but has picked up six wins and should have no problem picking up a win against the struggling Coyotes.

Brayden Schenn - Center, Flyers (DraftKings - $5,000 FanDuel - $6,300)

Schenn has had a very solid February where he has tallied 13 total points, six goals and seven assists, and now looks to end the month the same way he started it. On February 2nd, Schenn scored a goal and picked up a helper against the Montreal Canadiens. Now, he is coming off three points in his last two games and six points over his last four. The Flyers host the struggling Calgary Flames, a team that gives up 3.08 goals a game, tied for most in the NHL.

Tyler Johnson - Center, Lightning (DraftKings - $5,400 FanDuel - $6,100)

Johnson has also had a productive month, scoring four goals and posting five assists. Johnson has definitely had a down year since his impressive 2014-2015 campaign where he tallied 79 points; now 54 points shy of that career high mark well into the second half of the season. As the Lightning make a playoff push, they'll need their best from each of their top guys. Johnson is an affordable option and should be considered for both DFS sites.

Valeri Nichushkin - Winger, Stars (DraftKings - $3,900 FanDuel - $3,500)

Nichushkin has picked up three points in three games, consisting of two goals, one coming in his last game against the Rangers. Nichushkin is capable of playing 15 minutes a game and is another affordable option. Nichushkin also tallies plenty of shots and sees some time on the power play. He has a bit more appeal for FanDuel but should be used in all DFS tournaments.

Henrik Zetterberg - Winger, Red Wings (DraftKings - $5,500 FanDuel - $6,000)

The Red Wings battle the Stars Monday night in a very important game for Detroit. The Red Wings hang to the top wild card spot with 73 points, three points ahead of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the second wild card spot and six points ahead of the idle Philadelphia Flyers, looking to make a push. Zetterberg leads the Red Wings in assists, points, and power play points. He should be considered for both DraftKings and FanDuel, but holds more value on FanDuel because of his tenacious play on the advantage.

Mark Streit - Defenseman, Flyers (DraftKings - $4,400 FanDuel - $4,400)

Streit recently gathered three helpers against the Arizona Coyotes in his last game and has picked up four points in two games. Streit will look to continue his productive play against the Flames as the Flyers continue their playoff push. Streit should be considered in both because of his ability to block shots, how often he puts the puck on net and his time on the power play. He has tallied two points on the advantage in his last two games.

Keith Yandle - Defenseman, Rangers (DraftKings - $5,200 FanDuel - $5,600)

Yandle has become quite the assist beast for the Rangers as he leads the team in assists and power play assists. Yandle has collected eight so far this month and has had a real nice second, full season with New York. Yandle also leads the Rangers in time of ice with 19:46 minutes per game and puts the puck on net often. He is one of the top defensive options on the card Monday and is a solid tournament and head-to-head option for both formats.
