NASCAR Rankings Analysis
We've got 39 cars instead of 38 cars this week! And that 39th car really, really interests me in DFS this week.
That car belongs to Austin Cindric. The defending Xfinity Series champion will be making his second Cup Series start on Sunday, following a 15th-place finish at Daytona. Cindric has an average finish of 9.8 in Xfinity at speedway between one and two miles in length, with half of his career victories coming on that type of track. Combine his past success at these intermediate tracks with the speed of a Penske Racing Ford and you get a recipe for success.
Speaking of past success at intermediate tracks, Kevin Harvick has been really good at Atlanta. A three-time winner at the track, Harvick has top 10s in half of his starts here. But that includes a lot of middling runs here with Richard Childress Racing. Since joining Stewart Haas, Harvick has run seven races at this track, and after a 19th-place finish in 2014, he's reeled off six top 10s in a row, including a pair of wins. Harvick hasn't shown as much speed this year as he did last season, but if there's a race for him to break through and get back into victory lane, this could be the one.
Meanwhile, I'm high on Kyle Busch as well. Starting 19th gives him a lot of place differential upside, making the 18 car one of the best plays in this race. Busch has two wins here and has top 10 finishes the past three years. He's had a rough season with just two top 10s, but Joe Gibbs cars have speed and Busch is always a threat to win races, even if he only won one all of 2020.
Beyond that, there are some nice value plays this week. Tyler Reddick is $8,400 on DraftKings and starts 29th. Cole Custer is $7,600 and starts 27th. Both guys have some really nice potential value this week.
In terms of drivers to avoid, Bubba Wallace starts 15th and has an average finish this year of 21.8. 23XI Racing's debut hasn't gone smoothly, with Wallace finishing ahead of his starting spot just once. That one race was last week though, so let's not discount Wallace's chances of having a solid race, but starting 15th presents too much downside. Austin Dillon starts 13th and after finishing third at Daytona, Dillon hasn't recorded a top 10, and while his results have been better than Wallace's, he's another driver whose starting spot makes him a risky play.
