Daily League Fantasy Lineup Analysis: May 22, 2013

We are going to switch things up a little bit in our Daily League column. Instead of giving you an exact lineup, we'll be sharing top positional plays with quick analysis about why we like these guys.  There is no set budget for these picks, so they may be star-studded... the idea here is to give you some of the best players that are playing at each position.

Today's column is catered to the late games on May 22, 2013.

Pitchers to target:

Cliff Lee ($8,500) vs Miami
- Lee has been good lately and he should absolutely dominate the Marlins. He's my favorite pitcher play.

Jeff Samardzija ($8,100) vs Pittsburgh
- The Cubs power pitcher should have a big strikeout total tonight against a Pittsburgh team that whiffs often.

James Shields ($8,400) vs Houston
- He is an obvious start. I have no problems playing him but he will be popular. Going with Lee is a better play for $100 more IMO.

Roll-of-the-dice pitcher play:

Kevin Slowey ($4,700) vs Philadelphia
- He has struggled in his last two starts but was phenomenal all season up til those two. This game could become a pitchers duel.

Hitters to target:

Paul Goldschmidt ($5,100)
- Worth every dollar of his price. Has a favorable matchup against lefty De La Rosa.

Robinson Cano ($4,800)
- Hitless yesterday and he responds well after those games. Plus, he faces ultra-hittable righty Jason Hammel.

Travis Hafner ($3,700)
- Five hits in his last 3 games including 2 HR. He faces the most hittable starter during that stretch in Jason Hammel tonight.

Bargain Bin play:

Paul Konerko ($2,600)
- Who would've thought his price would be this low at this point in the season. Today is a good place to plug him in against Buchholz, whom he is 6-12 against. Another reason I like Konerko is his two walks last night, he is seeing the ball well right now.

Last, but certainly not least, make sure you check today’s lineups before setting your team!
