RotoCole’s Daily Fantasy Baseball Lineup Advice: April 19th Edition
In the preseason, we brought you Daily League Strategy Part 1 and Part 2. Now, all season long, I will be giving you my advice on whom to start in your daily fantasy lineups. Initially, this advice will cater to those who play on Fanduel. They offer some of the best gaming options for beginners, intermediate, and expert level players. Ladies (one or two reading this) and gentlemen, here is your late game Daily Fantasy Baseball lineup advice for the late games on April 19th, 2013:
How have we performed this week?
We doubled up with our primary lineup 3 of 4 days this week and look to win tonight to make it 4 of 5. Last night was particularly good, as we went 3-3 in 50/50 leagues and took first in a 20-man league which helped us win a nice amount of cash.
TGIF Play of the Day: 3B Chris Johnson ($3,300) - He is a bargain at $3.3K and is 16-30 in his last 7 games. Last night he homered and is just unbelievable right now. He'll face lefty Wandy Rodriguez and could have another field day. He should be started by every user on every daily fantasy platform.
Ride the Pine (SIT THIS DUDE): C Jonathan Lucroy ($3,200) - He hates facing Jeff Samardjiza because he is 0-7 with 4 K in his career against him. The track record couldn't be any worse. Look at Soto if he gets the start or even Cervelli who homered yesterday.
RotoCole's Primary Fanduel Lineup:
P: Marco Estrada ($6,600) - High K-rate pitcher who rarely walks hitters is a great option against the Cubs, who have the 4th worst OBP as a team this season. I considered Brett Myers because he was so cheap, but the consensus from our writers was Estrada as tonight's best value pitcher.
C: Geovany Soto ($3,000) - Check to make sure he gets the start but he should tonight against Joe Saunders, against whom he is 4-6 with a homer and two walks in his career.
1B: Todd Helton ($3,100) - Went 2-5 with two RBI yesterday and faces Ian Kennedy today, against whom he is a career .316 hitter.
2B: Dan Uggla ($3,100) - Starting Uggla was more for stacking purposes and less for prior BvP success. Still, I like his chances against lefty Wandy Rodriguez.
3B: Chris Johnson ($3,300) - Considering this guy spent the season coming off the bench, the Braves are loaded. Our Prime Time Friday Play is hot right now and gets a great matchup tonight.
SS: Elvis Andrus ($3,600) - Andrus is 2-7 with 2 SB against Saunders. I like his chances of getting driven in by Cruz or Soto.
OF: Nelson Cruz ($3,400) - Hopefully he drives in Andrus a couple of times with some extra base hits. It is more than possible against Saunders, whom he hits .304 with two homers against.
OF: Justin Upton ($5,200) - Has homered in 3 of his last 4 games, and has 2 more home runs than the next closest in the league (Fowler, 7).
OF: B.J. Upton ($3,500) - It's a family affair today. BJ and Justin have both homered off Wandy in their careers and are hot right now. (BJ went 2-4 with a home run last night)
Playing three or four players from a single team is called stacking in daily fantasy. It is a highly criticized and highly effective method in daily fantasy baseball. Can you win without stacking? Absolutely. But if you stack four of the best hitters from a lineup, as I did above with Atlanta, and that lineup scores a lot of runs, then you most likely benefitted from the hits, RBI and runs scored as a result.
