We are going to switch things up a little bit in our Daily League column. Instead of giving you an exact lineup, we'll be sharing top positional plays with quick analysis about why we like these guys. There is no set budget for these picks, so they may be star-studded... the idea here is to give you some of the best players that are playing at each position.
Top Positional Plays:
C: Buster Posey - He's baseball's second best hitting catcher and will face junky lefty Zach Duke today. He's a good bet for at least a 2-hit game.
1B: Joey Votto - He is absolutely on fire right now collecting 17 hits in his last 8 games. Add to that Votto's career BvP against against Shaun Marcum is 5-9 and you have a must start on your hands.
2B: Jurickson Profar - Do the fun thing and start the 20 year old phenom against the 90 year old Bartolo Colon.
3B: Jordan Pacheco - He is just 2 games removed from his 5 RBI effort and today he'll face Patrick Corbin, who he's 6-11 against.
SS: JJ Hardy - His 13 game hit streak ended yesterday but I think he responds with a big game against CC today. He is 7-17 in his career against Sabathia.
OF: Angel Pagan - His average has been falling a bit but facing Zach Duke, whom Pagan is 5-10 against, should improve that a bit | Domonic Brown - 2-2 with a HR against Alex Sanabia | Marlon Byrd - 6-11 in his career against Johnny Cueto.
Good SP Options:
Hisashi Iwakuma - Has dominant numbers against Cleveland and faces Kazmir so he should be in for a good start plus the W.
Cole Hamels - Faces the Miami Single-A club.
RA Dickey - Has found his groove and faces a Tampa Bay club he dominates.
Value SP Options:
Jeremy Guthrie - Faces a dismal Houston lineup and is very affordable on most sites.
Scott Kazmir - Has looked pretty good lately and could be part of a pitcher's duel tonight.
Good Stack Options:
ATLANTA BRAVES (Heyward, Upton, McCann, C. Johnson)
NEW YORK YANKEES (Gardner, Suzuki, Hafner, Cano)
TEXAS RANGERS (Profar, Murphy, Beltre, Gentry)
OAKLAND ATHLETICS (Crisp, Lowrie, Cespedes, Smith)
CINCINNATI REDS (Votto, Bruce, Hannahan, Choo)
WASHINGTON NATIONALS (Zimmerman, Harper, Espinosa, LaRoche)
