Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox (6/11/19)

Welcome to the Tuesday, June 11th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on June 11th. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Editor's Note: Our incredible team of writers received five total writing awards and 13 award nominations by the Fantasy Sports Writers Association, tops in the industry! Congrats to all the award winners and nominees including Best MLB Series, NFL Series, NBA Writer, PGA Writer and Player Notes writer of the year. Be sure to follow their analysis, rankings and advice all year long, and win big with RotoBaller! Read More!

Daily Musings

  • Joe Musgrove ejected in first inning for BS call (Blatant Shenanigans, for those sensitive eyes). Floodgates open. Ronald Acuna Grand Slam, Delicious. Ozzie Albies HR x two. Freddie Freeman HR. Nick Markakis HR. Musgrove to start on Thursday, hopefully BS-free.
  • Jordan Hicks is still the closer(13) in St. Louis, not John Gant or Carlos Martinez.
  • Jerad Eickhoff showed potential for decent outings in recent starts. However, in true fantasy baseball fashion, he blew up (three IP, seven ER) vs the D’backs allowing five HR (2.51HR/9). Maybe he was just so cocky, he wanted to allow a HR to the first three batters to give the D'backs a head start.
  • Gabe Kapler must have been so distracted from Eickhoff boo-hoo, he didn't notice Jean Segura steal a base. Now that's the art of true thievery.
  • Ketel Marte(16HR, 46RBI) & Eduardo Escobar (17HR, 54RBI) dominance continues. Wish I had some of that.
  • Scott Kingery enjoying life game after IL w/two HR & a triple. .324AVG (.394BABIP). 25%K rate. Wish he walked more (3.6%). Avg exit velo up to 89.5mph. 27% owned. Cheap share of potent lineup. Don’t mind if I do.
  • There’s a Greg Holland sighting. Nope, not for a save opportunity as there haven’t been many of those to speak of. Just a routine, come-in-the-game-and-give-up-two-runs-in-one-inning type appearance. Thanks for that crappy Holland-days type sauce. Dad Joke of day. Check
  • Andrew Benintendi, I have you in 77% of my NFBC leagues. Thus far, it hasn’t been pretty, but a HR(seven) off a lefty helps ease my weary troubles.
  • Tampa Bay Rays come w/plenty of fantasy goodness. Brandon Lowe hits his third HR in two days & Ji-Man Choi puts a reassuring hand on my shoulder in leagues where I was bold enough to keep him. Kevin Kiermaier (eighth HR) continues his hotness, helping the outcome of weekly OF Waiver Wire recommendations.
  • BAM BAM! Starling Marte with a two-HR party. Batting .414 w/two SB over last week as well. A little slump w/buy low opportunity is no more.
  • A game of Good Closer, Bad Closer. Matt Barnes & Ryan Brasier usually take turns with their roles. Sometimes they forget who was supposed to do what, like last night when they both played Bad Closer. All the while, Chris Sale (10K, 7IP) waits for someone to get their act together.
  • Trea Turner has turned a 9.3-degree launch angle into a deadly weapon. Back to back HR games. Three straight multi-hit games. Summer is upon us. 10 days w/o SB will be erased soon as well.
  • Injuries compile for Cubs; David Bote taking advantage of other people’s misfortunes. More playing time. More of 8HR, 32RBI, .279AVG guy.
  • Hyun-Jin Ryu (six IP, six K) hands over his 3-1 (lead) Pet Win to the Dodger bullpen. They get so excited. The love the Pet. They pet the Pet; & massage the naughty Pet. It's so naughty….they get so excited they smother it and ultimately kill the Pet Win. Thanks, bullpen. That’s why we can’t have anything nice.
  • Enjoy the Tuesday games.
