Dallas Keuchel Named Starting AL Pitcher For All-Star Game

Dallas Keuchel has been named the starting pitcher for the American League during Tuesday’s MLB All-Star Game, according to MLB.com.

Keuchel was dominant with the Houston Astros during a breakout first half of the 2015 MLB season. The left-hander has an 11-4 record with a 2.23 ERA, which was second in the AL behind the Oakland A’s Sonny Gray (2.04).

"It was a tough decision, but what a phenomenal year that he's having," AL manager Ned Yost told MLB.com.

Gray pitched a complete game shutout victory over the Minnesota Twins on Sunday, which made him ineligible to start the All-Star game. Keuchel was a solid backup selection to start the All-Star Game.

Keuchel has two shutouts and has accumulated a 4.7 WAR, both of which lead the AL.

Keuchel, will become the fourth Astros pitcher in history to start an All-Star Game. The other three were Roger Clemens (2004), Mike Scott (1987) and J.R. Richard (1980).

"I'm extremely excited for the opportunity," Keuchel told MLB.com.

Zack Grienke will start on the hill for the National League.
