Analysis: Since finishing fourth in AL Rookie of the Year voting with the A's in 2013, Dan Straily has been a bit of a journeyman, bouncing around to Chicago and Houston for a year each without finding much success. He has unexpectedly found a nice home in the lackluster Cincinnati rotation as the Reds wait on injury recoveries and work some prospects through development. So far in 2016 Straily has a 2.98 ERA, 1.123 WHIP, and is striking out 8.6 batters per nine IP. His FIP of 4.23 may appear to not support his solid ERA, but that is in large part to his 1.0 HR/9 allowed, but what figure of HR allowed would you expect when your home field is Great American Small Park? Straily has been allowing just 6.1 H/9, which is how he has been able to neutralize the amount of runs scored. He has improved his strikeout percentage, lowered his usually high walk percentage, and is allowing just 4.4% extra-base hits. Cash in on his pleasantly surprising season, just as the Reds are.
