Danny Amendola (WR, DET) - Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team PPR Leagues

OWNED IN: 25% of Leagues

ANALYSISVeteran greats never die. Danny Amendola, a once 13.5 fantasy points per game-type player, put on one of his best games of the year this past Sunday while facing Tampa Bay. Amendola finished the day with 102 yards on eight receptions (13 targets), with all of those three marks except the yardage (by three measly yards) being season-high points. Not since Week 7 had the veteran receiver logged as many yards, and truth be told, it was a shame he could get inside the paint for a touchdown.

Amendola has been averaging fewer than 10 fantasy points all year long (he’s currently at 9.9). He was on a six-game streak of falling under that mark until he broke out for 18.2 last Sunday with a stellar performance. It is not that surprising, though, considering the number of targets he saw thanks to Marvin Jones and Marvin Hall being out for the remainder of the season. Those are good news for the fantasy championship weekend, as he will keep getting all the work he can handle while opposing defenses will most probably key on Kenny Golladay.

While Amendola is playing under middling quarterbacking these days (David Blough, a three-game pro, is starting for Detroit now), that didn’t seem to affect his outcome last weekend. It might be hard for Amendola to put another 100-yard game next week against Denver (seventh-best defense against WRs), but the volume of passes he’ll be thrown will remain there at the very least. That alone should help him reach 15 FP on receptions (PPR leagues) and minimal yardage gained. I consider Amendola a good play as a boom/bust flex or second-flex option in deep leagues, favoring those awarding points for receptions as he might rack up a ton once more.
