The Anaheim Angels are close to acquiring David Murphy from the Cleveland Indians, according to The Los Angeles Times.
The Indians will receive shortstop prospect Eric Stamets, according to CBS Sports. The deal proves that Cleveland, 15 games out of first place in the AL Central, has thrown in the towel on 2015.
Murphy, 33, has been a solid hitting outfielder throughout his 10-year career. He has a .296 BA this season with 5 HR and 27 RBI. He’s always hit double-digits in homers while knocking in 50-65 runs. Murphy is a 6-9 hitter in an American League lineup. He’s not going to hit for power but he’s going to get on base and make the Angels lineup that much deeper than it already is with Mike Trout and Albert Pujols clogging up the middle.
Anaheim traded for Shane Victorino on Monday. Victorino and Murphy should form an effective platoon in left field, with Murphy playing against RHP.
