The New York Mets placed David Wright on the 15-day DL after suffering a hamstring injury Tuesday night against the Phillies.
After stealing a base, the Mets captain and longtime third basemen tweaked his hamstring. Wright tried to fight it out, but after one pitch to the next batter, he took himself out of the game. An MRI was done to determine the severity of the injury, which landed him on the DL, according to the Mets Twitter account.

"A couple of feet before the bag I just felt my hamstring grab," Wright told CBSsports.com Tuesday. "I thought it might be something that I could stretch out a little bit. But then I took a couple of secondary leads and just realized that if the ball was put in play I wouldn't have been able to do anything positive, that's for sure. It took a couple a pitches and it didn't get any better. That's when I thought I'd rather say something and hopefully catch this thing before I make the same mistake I made a couple of years ago, when I tried to play through it and made it worse."
"Anytime you feel something like that, you hope that it goes away. And this just didn't go away."
Wright was off to a solid start with a .333 BA in eight games. A red-hot Eric Campbell has been called up to take Wright's spot. In six games in AAA this season, Campbell has two homers, two doubles, a triple, six RBI and a .550 BA. The utility man will likely be penciled into playing third base right away.
