Dawson Knox (TE, BUF) - Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues

OWNED IN: 5% of Leagues

ANALYSIS: Although Dawson Knox fell a little short of a great performance in Thanksgiving, he was able to improve on his Week 12 outing and finish the day with six more yards on one more catch and four targets (his highest mark since Week 10). Knox was limited to 17 yards on three catches by the Cowboys, but the most encouraging thing for him going forward are those targets, which he is keeping up and could potentially turn into bigger yardage gains at any time.

Dawson is the lone tight end really used by the Bills and Josh Allen, so he has that going for him this year. He’s played 533 snaps to Lee Smith’s 279 (second-most at the position for the Bills), almost doubling him. Knox has been targeted 41 times on the season and has hauled in 25 receptions for two touchdowns in 2019. He had his best game in Week 3 when he finished with 67 yards and a touchdown on three receptions, but he also broke the 10-point fantasy mark in his Week 11 outing against Miami receiving two passes for 32 yards but crossing the goal line for his other score of the season (11.2 fantasy points).

Knox isn’t the worst option at the tight end position if you’re streaming it. The Bills are using John Brown heavily on offense, such that the team has been totally one-dimensional in the passing attack. That opens the door to Knox as an alternative when Brown is tightly covered. Josh Allen also boosts Knox upside given his high-volume passing and how easy he usually finds to pass for more than 200 yards and multiple scores. Knox is not someone you should target if you play in a shallow league, as there might be safer options available for free, but if he’s definitely a target in 14+ Teams and other even deeper leagues.
