Jacob deGrom will start Game 2 of the World Series for the New York Mets against the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday.
The Game 2 start will give the right-hander an extra day of rest as he prepares for what could be at least two appearances in order to win the World Series. deGrom last started Game 2 of the NLCS back on Oct. 18.
Since the Mets swept the Chicago Cubs, deGrom only had to pitch once. It wasn’t the best start for the 27-year-old. He was able to get out of a few jams with runners on and finished with only allowing two runs over seven innings pitched on seven strikeouts.
Instead of throwing deGrom out for Game 1, the Mets will hand the ball to Matt Harvey. After a dominanting first start, deGrom had his struggles over his last two. Harvey has an extra day’s rest, which makes sense to let him start like he did for Game 1 of the NLCS.
