DeGrom Strikes Out 11 On One Hit Against Cards

Jacob DeGrom might have just had the best performance of his young career on the mound for the New York Mets Thursday.

DeGrom (4-4, 3.21 ERA) pitched eight innings of shutout ball against the St. Louis Cardinals, which gave the team a split in the four-game set against the N.L.’s best team. The best part for the 26-year-old was that he struck out a career-high 11 with one hit which came in the first inning for the 5-0 victory.

It was a big win for a Mets team that allowed 19 runs while only scoring two over the past two games prior to Thursday’s win.

The right-hander didn't walk a batter in the contest. DeGrom lowered his ERA to 2.75, his WHIP to 1.11 WHIP. He also now holds an excellent 54/13 K/BB ratio over 55 2/3 innings.

DeGrom has now put together two gems on the rubber after having his struggles this season. In his last start, he allowed one hit in six innings for the victory.
