ANALYSIS: At 27, Denzel Valentine easily qualifies for the elder-half of the Chicago Bulls roster, and he has managed to maintain a workable level of playing time (17.5 minutes per game) and, like his other three seasons in Chicago, used that time to produce in a variety of statistical categories. Through six contests, Valentine has put up 7.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game, and while his three-point output has stayed largely the same, his conversion rate has seen a serious boost from 33.6% to 45.5% from last season. Even in an off night like Friday's game against the Lakers where Valentine went 1-5 from three-point range, he still ended up with five points, four boards, and an assist in 25 minutes of play.
The former Michigan State Spartan has been far more precise on offense, totaling an effective shooting percentage of .618 and a true-shooting percentage of .631, and has backed up his other statistical contributions with career-high figures for rebounding percentage (13.6%) and steal percentage (3.5). Even with his assist percentage down, Valentine's volume tends to follow consistent and meaningful playing time, which has kept up despite the young talent in the Chicago back court. With that potential for well-rounded contributions and his beefed up long-range success rate, Denzel Valentine is a unique asset of value among the widely-available ranks.
