Analysis: With a slash line of .214/.264/.375, Derek Norris appears to be missing something that he had when he was an All-Star behind the plate with the Oakland A's. However, he has hit seven HR off of an improved isolated power figure of .163 in 192 AB, which is particularly impressive given his home turf is Petco Park. He is striking out more at 24.5% and walking less at 5.8%, so his value is coming mainly from his power, as he has improved his HR% to 3.4% and has an above-average XBH percentage at 8.2%. His 1.1 defensive WAR is likely to keep him on the field even when he is struggling at the plate, however, his worst days seem to be behind him.
He got off to a ghastly start in April by producing a slash line of .156/.198/.247 with just one home run in 77 AB. He improved marginally in May with a .203/.277/.419 slash with four homers in 74 AB. This month, Norris has been feeling it with the bat. He has a June slash line of .341/.364/.537 with two home runs and a stolen base in 41 AB. Norris appears to have regained his All-Star level play, and with catcher being an extremely shallow position, his value is skyrocketing.
