ANALYSIS: On June 11, 55 at-bats into his sophomore season, Devon Travis was hitting .145. However, over his last 20 games, he has hit .349 with four home runs, giving him a .268/.306/.435 line with five homers and three steals on the year. The 25-year-old hit .304/.361/.498 with eight long-balls over 239 plate appearances as a rookie in 2015.
Travis doesn’t walk much (5.4%), but he also doesn’t strike out a whole lot (17.0%). He makes good contact and has a knack for getting on base— .381 OBP over five years in the minors. As far as counting stats go, he isn’t in the same category as Jose Altuve, Robinson Cano or Dee Gordon, but Travis could go 20/15 in a full year— putting him right up there with Ian Kinsler, Rougned Odor, Jason Kipnis and Brian Dozier. The Blue Jays’ second baseman should be considered a low-end 2B1 for the rest of the season.
