ANALYSIS: Coming off of a 10 K performance against the San Francisco Giants, San Diego Padres pitcher Dinelson Lamet didn't exactly blow the doors off anyone in his last start, losing to the Colorado Rockies 3-2. But Lamet wasn't exactly bad, allowing one earned run in six innings, giving up six hits and striking out four. And it was also encouraging to see the hard-throwing rightie only walk one batter, after walking a total of five in his past two starts.
Next up for Lamet and the Padres is a date against the Chicago Cubs at home on Thursday. While the Cubs have won seven of their last 11 games, they also strikeout against right-handers at a 23.6% clip, and recently got the news that they will be without one of their best hitters for the foreseeable future, as Javier Baez is out with a broken thumb. Through 57 innings in his return from Tommy John surgery, Lamet has a 3.95 ERA and is striking out almost 12 batters per nine innings, making him a threat to strikeout double-digit batters every time he takes the mound.
