ANALYSIS: We now are starting to get into the true meat of the byes, as there are at least four teams off in six of the nest seven weeks. So you have to aggressively pursue quality depth. D.K. Metcalf has already emerged as a viable Fantasy WR4 in his first pro season. He is one of several fresh WR standouts in an incredibly impressive rookie class.
Metcalf, a unique blend of size and speed, has landed in the ideal situation for his skill set. The Seahawks definitely filled a need in the receiving game with a big target, and Russell Wilson is arguably the most effective deep passer in the game. He has already taken to Metcalf for downfield splash plays, as the newest Seattle playmaker has averaged 22.3 yards per catch.
Metcalf has three games with catches of 40-plus yards and caught his second TD pass in a thrilling Week 5 win over the Rams. He also has three outings with six or more receptions. He only has one game with over 70 yards receiving so far, but as he gets more comfortable at the pro level those sorts of outings should become more frequent.
Metcalf often gains good separation from defensive backs, and as his route running becomes more polished, he will eventually become even more productive for Fantasy purposes. Wilson is not afraid to throw him many jump balls or passes that he can fight for and win as contested catches. Metcalf isn't prevailing in a lot of those battles just yet but Wilson will keep trying to give him opportunities to come down with those 50/50 balls.
From a Fantasy perspective, Metcalf is an ideal bye week plugger and exciting Fantasy WR4. He can strike with a big play at any time and he has been a pretty reliable double figure PPR performer. As he continues to get more comfortable as an NFL player, he should become even more dangerous to opposing defenses. Metcalf is a must-add in all leagues where he is available. The best is yet to come and he is a quality Fantasy contributor already.
