The Miami Marlins are closing in a deal where they would send Mat Latos and Michael Morse to the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to ESPN.com. The Miami Herald reported that the deal “could be falling apart.”
The deal hasn’t become official just yet. The original offered deal was that the Dodgers would send three minor league pitchers to Miami in exchange for the first baseman and starting pitcher. The Dodgers would also receive the No. 34 pick in next year’s draft, according The Miami Herald.
Now hearing the trade is far from complete. Sources telling me it could be falling apart. Total confusion. #marlins

Latos, 27, is making $9.5 million this, $3,492,896 of that money will be paid by the Dodgers. He will become an unrestricted free agent after the season. Morse, 33, is in the middle of the first season of a two-year $16 million contract.
Morse has predominately been a first basemen in his career but he’ll likely see playing time in the outfield. He has a .214 BA with 4 HR and 12 RBI in 52 games this season. Last year was Morse’s best season when he had a .279 BA with 16 HR and 61 RBI.
Latos will be plugged behind Zack Greinke and Clayton Kershaw in the L.A. starting rotation. The back end of the rotation has been dealing with injuries, which will open the door for the veteran to help the Dodgers get back to the postseason. The right-hander had a solid stretch of five seasons with his ERA in the mid to lower threes. In his first year with the Marlins, Latos has a 4-7 record with a 4.48 ERA.
The Miami Herald reported that the deal “could be falling apart” because Marlins GM Dan Jennings told reporters that the trade isn’t close. The Dodgers might be trying to flip Morse to a third team, which could cause the holdup. The problem could also be medical related.
