I wouldn’t exactly call Doug Fister a sleeper this year because he has established himself in the past, but I do think he is being overlooked. After a disappointing 2015 season, for not only him but the Washington Nationals, Fister will benefit from a change of scenery now with the Houston Astros. He has already proven that he pitches well in the American League, finding success as soon as he was shipped to Detroit midseason in 2011. In two and a half seasons with the Tigers, Fister won 32 games, posted a 2.97 ERA, and struck out 353 batters.
Looking to put a 5-7 record and a 4.19 ERA in his rearview, Fister now pitches in a solid rotation, with a solid defense and lineup backing him up. There is much to be said about his former team, as they too should make some noise this season, but the Astros seem to be a bit more sturdy and secure, despite being surrounded by a lot of youth. Houston hit the second most home runs in the Majors last season so Fister should get plenty of run support. It would be wise to considered him in later draft rounds of any league.
