Drew Lock (QB, DEN) - Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues

OWNED IN: 2% of Leagues

ANALYSISSecond start for Drew Lock, second multi-touchdown game. Has Denver finally found its solution at quarterback? So far, so good for the rookie and the Broncos. While Lock had a good game in his first professional start against the Chargers in Week 13 he doubled down on his performance this past Sunday. He turned a 16.2-point outing into a 29 against Houston and finished last weekend’s game with 309 yards on 22 of 27 completions for three touchdowns and just one interception. Lock was able to complete 81.5 percent of his throws even while almost reaching 30, quite a nice thing to see from a rookie.

Lock’s first game was encouraging (134 yards on 18 completions, two touchdowns, one interception) but he lacked punch and finished the day averaging just 4.8 yards per attempt. He was much better in his second game and the 29 fantasy points he logged are almost a top-50 score for a quarterback on any game by a player at the position this season. Considering the tools Lock is working with (basically Courtland Sutton and Noah Fant, a sophomore receiver and a rookie tight end respectively) his play has been more than passable.

While the Texans Defense ranked 30th against QBs, the Chargers one is the fourth-best in the nation. No matter what, Lock was able to win both games and score more than 16 points in each of them. He faces two below-average defenses next in Kansas City’s (18th) and Detroit (25th) so he might be able to keep putting up big fantasy numbers. Lock is far from a starter at the QB position in normal-size or sallow fantasy leagues, but if you’re streaming it or are part of a deeper/2QB league then you should really consider him ROS. Even if his two games are his floor (16 points) and ceiling (30 points), an average true-talent of around 20 points would make him a high-end QB2 on the season. No-brainer addition flying completely under the radar.
