Dustin Pedroia is scheduled to take batting practice on Thursday, according to the Boston Globe.
The Boston Red Sox second baseman could return from the hamstring injury and rejoin the lineup on July 9, though that is the final series before the all-star break. Boston will play against the New York Yankees in what could be a very important series before the break.
"He's moving around much better," Red Sox Manager John Farrell told Masslive.com. "With a muscle pull, you're going to see some of that blood come to the surface, the internal bleeding. That's there. But his mobility, his range of motion, that's improving. He's able to get on the elliptical, the stationary bike, to start moving things around."
The Red Sox are in last place of the AL East at 36-43. Despite that, they are six games back from first place in the division and riding a three-game winning streak.
The 31-year-old former AL-MVP has a .306 BA with 9 HR, 33 RBI .819 OPS and 86 hits in 69 games. Pedroia hasn’t played since suffering the hamstring injury on July 24.
Rookie Deven Marrero and Brock Holt will play second base until Pedroia’s return.
